Evaluation version: Data Manager not functioning

I installed a non-registered demo of ArcPad 10.  The Data Manager toolbar is now available in ArcMap but it is not active, all the tools are grayed out and do not respond.  Do I have to purchase a license to get the data manager functionality?

Have you enabled the ArcPad Data Manager extension in ArcMap?

Thanks, that did it.  Seems a bit odd that the toolbar shows up without the extension being enabled.  Oh, well, the mysteries of ESRI.
