ArcReader 10 backwards compatiblity

Does anyone know if ESRI has updated ArcReader 10 so that it is backwards compatible?  I saw a post from 8/24/10 that they were supposed to be working on it.  In the mean time has anyone tried opening a mxd that they created in 9.3.1 and tried republishing it through 10 to see if you could open it that way?

I just attempted to open a ArcReader document I created in ArcView 9.3 (sorry, it isn't 9.3.1 so not 100% sure it would be the same but I am guessing it is) but I cannot open it with ArcReader 10.0.
