Having penned an elegant “Fin” on the last page of 2022, we’re eager to wish everyone in Esri Community a Happy New Year! Our team hopes your final days of December wrapped up in gentle fashion and that your prospects for the year-to-come gleam with promise. Know that we’re grateful to have you here.

Could you do us a little favor?

Take a pointer finger and, holding your fist near your chest, point it here. Do the same with a second hand if you can.

Now drop one fist, tapping the tip of your finger on your desk. Repeat with the other. Again in succession. Faster. Faster.

Ahem … Much obliged for the drumroll. Thank you.

With this percussive fanfare, we're thrilled to announce the 2022 Community Contest winners! For this contest, we’re recognizing and rewarding three levels of participation. Here are the winners for each respective level.

Elite Level

This level encompasses our true community superstars, otherwise known as our MVPs. Though a tiny fraction of all Esri Community membership (just 0.02%), MVPs collectively provided 22% of all answer posts that were marked as Accepted Solutions in 2022.

  • @jcarlson (246 Solutions) – Returning for a second year in a row with the most Accepted Solutions, Josh is repeat champ having earned top spot in 2021's Esri Community Contest. Equally remarkable are Josh's rapid rise to the rank of MVP and the generous mindset he brings to this platform. Thank you, Josh, for sharing so much of yourself with this membership and making the GIS community that much more connected!

  • @JohannesLindner  (220 Solutions) – Almost exactly one year ago, we happily awarded Johannes a spot in the Rising Star level of the Esri Community Contest. At the end of his writeup, we included the prediction: "... you are well on your way to becoming an MVP!" And that's exactly what happened. We're so appreciative to you, Johannes, for all the time you volunteer helping answer others' questions. It makes a real difference for so many folks!

  • @DanPatterson (216 Solutions) – Dan maintains a special level of prestige among Esri Community Contest winners, being the individual to have made it into the winner's circle more times than anyone else. The expertise he shared this past year is considerable on its own. Added to his long history of contributions, Dan's mark on Esri Community is nearly unfathomable. Thank you, Dan, for everything you continue to bring to the GIS community!

Rising Star

At this level, we recognize our up-and-coming members who have gone above and beyond this year. Their numerous replies to others account for the bulk of the contribution evaluated for this contest; the quality of which is often framed by their Accepted Solutions and Kudos received from others.

  • @wayfaringrob – ArcGIS Pro Questions and Ideas are @rburke's Esri Community bread and butter, where you'll find a great many authored posts and replies. Other members responded in appreciation by giving @rburke nearly 500 Kudos in response. As they say: That's not nothin'. Keep up the great work inspiring others with your contributions!

  • @Bud – @Bud's presence in Esri Community hails back to 2016. If you were to give his account a visit, you'd find 77 pages worth of contributed posts listed in his history. This to say that his 2022 activity in Esri Community reflected that substantial tradition of involvement. Congratulations to you on earning this deserved recognition, @Bud!

  • @ABishop  We've yet to reach the two year mark from when Amanda created her account in Esri Community. Even still, she hasn't needed that long to reach the Rising Star category of this contest, having launched herself upward from the Newcomer of the Year category in 2021. We're energized by your participation, Amanda!

Newcomer of the Year

These members joined Esri Community in 2022 and jumped right into collaborating and engaging with others in standout ways, including a prolific degree of posting across Boards. Welcome!

  • @Ed_- It's common for newcomers to Esri Community to keep a bit quiet, observing the activity of others and perhaps asking a question here or there. Not so for Saadullah, who joined last January. From publishing questions, to responding on others' posts, getting requests into the ArcGIS Ideas Exchange, and more, Saadullah dove in feet first. We're glad to have you here, Saadullah, and can't wait to see what the next year brings!

  • @BarryNorthey – Barry joined Esri Community mid-year 2022, and was quick to begin sharing a wealth of expertise with others. Barry's been open about having retired a few years back, but it sure looks to us like a love for GIS and desire to help others isn't about to be put to rest. It's a real pleasure to have you here, Barry! We can already see how your presence is having a positive impact.

  • @coryeicher – Another January join, Cory's year-long tracks can be followed across ArcGIS JavaScript Maps SDK, ArcGIS Pro SDK, ArcGIS Maps SDK for Unity, and Calcite Design Systems. And that path doesn't just lead to questions, but authored Accepted Solutions and Kudos received from others, too. It's exciting to see you starting so strong, Cory! Our team is glad you've carved out a home in Esri Community and that you're already beginning to make your mark here.

An enormous congratulations and THANK YOU to all our 2022 contest winners!

To all our other members, we’re so grateful to you for being part of this Community. Our team anticipates a 2023 full of abundant collaboration where peers and professionals work together to help each other make great strides in GIS. Thanks for being part of it!
