The GeoNet Contest is designed to reward users for their technical expertise, spirit of community, and their willingness to help their peers by providing helpful and useful information in the GeoNet community.

How it works:

  1. Any member of the GeoNet user community logged in with their Esri Account may earn points by completing missions as outlined in GeoNet Points System, or from their Reputation Page (User Drop Down > View Profile > More > Reputation). For example you can earn points by answering questions, getting replies marked as helpful, and contributing content.
  2. A member may see their current point totals by going to the GeoNet Contest Leaderboard.
  3. Active users of GeoNet who rank among the highest in total number of points for each period are eligible for prizes and recognition, which may include badges, certificates, gift cards, non-Esri merchandise and/or services, Esri merchandise and/or services.

See the latest copy of the 2015 GeoNet Contest Rules for the most up-to-date details.

This is very exciting. I really like that this contest is much more transparent than the old version.

Can we perhaps a student division?  I've found GeoNet a pretty rewarding community to participate in, but since I am *ahem* "less experienced" that your average person who participates on a regular basis.  I try to participate in as many areas as I can, but as I've found out, experience does a whole lot more for your knowledge base then I feel education has so far.  This makes it somewhat difficult to gain points at a rate where your 20+ year professionals do.  Not that participation is about the prizes, but it could facilitate more students to be interested and engaged.

Then I will insist on a seniors division...since I am forgetting more than I remember...even with bookmarks

We should have it divisioned off by country.  That way I don't have to compete against these knowledgeable Canadians....

I completely understand you concerns. I did my best to try and get a couple variations of the contest going for this year so that others are rewarded outside of the top contributors, but I was unable to do so for this first iteration. I hope to be able to do something like this in the future.

Timothy Hales what do you think of adding screen recordings to the point system? Maybe others would use them to post questions. There is free software for it. And I'll be fair, none of the ones I already posted don't have to count. I have received positive feedback when asking questions in that way and thought it may help others in answering questions.

I agree with you on this one Chris.  Content should have the options of being rewarded.  Screencasts, documents and scripts would also fall into that category.  It is strange that the mere fact of recording this comment awards points on the GeoNet points system

Pretty excited about this contest.  Not sure if I can catch up...  Still going to try!

Philip Slater The good news is that you can get in on the second semi-annual contest starting July 1st, 2015.

Chris Sergent This is a good idea. I'll have to see what content has an endpoint within our gamification module. Not sure if I can get it into the second semi-annual content, but I'll see what I can do.

I agree I think all contributions should be valued in the point system.

Understood. I was kind of thinking a long the lines of the future as well. But keep the high points for correctly answered questions as I ask a lot and I want people to be encouraged to help in that way the most.
