We have tried to automate the backup process in SQL Server Management Studio and we have done that successfully, but during our testing process of trying to restore a database to make sure it works it fails. When the backup is created through ArcCatalog and we try to restore it is a success. What gives?

ArcSDE 10
Windows Server 2008 Standard SP 2
64 Bit
SQL 2008 R2

If fails how?

Is this an SDE enterpise license or workgroup/personal?

There is a process that you have to use to in order to re-sync the repository tables with sde user login.

It is Enterprise License.

We decided to give it a try again today after the long holiday weekend and this time the restoring of the database was successful. We can not come up with an explanation of why.

Perhaps you backed up both the sde database and the master database together?
