Digitize a non-spatial table rather than geocode

Hi,

This is an obscure question.

Normally, if one wants to make a non-spatial table spatial the solution is to geocode it based on a field in the table. But if there is no suitable location field in the table and no existing feature class one could join to, then what are the options? Perhaps create a unique ID field in the table, then digitize the features in a new feature class placing the ID number in the attribute table, then do a Join. That works, but it made me wonder if it's possible (arcscript?) to digitize a non-spatial table directly; e.g. click a row in the table, then digitize the point/line/polygon related to it, click another row, digitize... or something equally efficient?

Thanks.
