Role: Utilities Geospatial Solutions Engineer

Role Summary: The Utilities Geospatial Solutions Engineer provides support directed at the implementation, maintenance, and advancement of the ArcGIS Utility Network technology for water utility clients (water, wastewater, and stormwater domains). The role is responsible for assessments and recommendations, application deployment, system administration and configuration, documentation, end user support and training, data analysis, data modeling, web service creation, application testing and troubleshooting.  

Essential Functions:

  • High proficiency with installation, configuration, and administration of ArcGIS Enterprise components (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Utility Network)
  • Fluency in the configuration and deployment Esri solution templates and mobility solutions (e.g., Collector. Field Maps, Survey123) for water utilities
  • Expertise creating and publishing GIS services (e.g., map, image, geoprocessing, and other data services)
  • Familiarity with setting up and deploying cloud environments per a design specification
  • Ability to effectively manage both on-premise and cloud environments
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting system and solution errors and support end users
  • Experience creating products and models using Model Builder, Python scripting and/or exposure to similar process automation tools
  • Understanding of data migration concepts and experience with ETL (extract, transform, and load) practices using SSP Sync, Esri Data Loading Tools, and Safe Software FME
  • Comfort and capability to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to lead needs assessments/requirements meetings and identify/document solutions leveraging the enterprise GIS, especially for water, wastewater, and stormwater
  • Experience writing technical recommendations, standard operating procedures, administrative and help documents for clients, technical teams, and end users
  • Comfort assessing existing GIS environments and recommend areas for improvements in areas such as technology adoption, system performance, and software migration plans
  • Ability to clearly communicate with architects and developers to successfully deploy custom solutions
  • Experience writing and executing test plans
  • Experience training users on the utilization and adoption of GIS technologies, especially ArcGIS Utility Network
  • Evaluate quality and structure of existing data and develop action plans for migration to an enterprise GIS network geodatabase
  • Review, design, and implement logical and physical data models, including data mapping and database management for utility databases.
  • Work with customers and project team to determine requirements associated with implementation and configuration of software, tools, and technical processes.
  • Assist in defining data, business process and/or system requirements.
  • Install and configure data quality control software including ArcGIS Data Reviewer
  • Train users on the use and adoption of GIS technologies, including Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and the ArcGIS Utility Network.
  • Develop process- and tool-related technical documentation.
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues, risks, and progress to customer, contractor team, and IT stakeholders, providing options and next steps.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Geography/GIS, Science, Engineering, or related field*
  • Two or more year of enterprise-level GIS technology experience **
  • Knowledge of water, wastewater, and/or stormwater utility assets
    • Experience creating and editing geodatabases, especially for water, wastewater, and stormwater utility systems
    • Experience with data modeling and geodatabase design, especially for water, wastewater, and stormwater utility systems
  • Experience with data collection technologies and processes
  • Experience with data conversion processes

Ideal (in addition to required experience):

  • GISP preferred
  • 3+ years operational experience in water, wastewater, and/or stormwater preferred
    • 3+ years GIS experience in water, wastewater, and/or stormwater utility preferred
    • 3+ year GIS implementation and/or project management experience
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Utility Network preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scripting and automation with Python
  • Experience with database migrations
  • Enterprise geodatabase and SDE experience
  • Experience with installation and administration of RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)
  • Industry standard certifications (e.g. Esri, GISP)

Work Environment:

  • Location is flexible: Sun Prairie, WI; Birmingham, AL; or work from home considered
  • Travel may be required (less than 30%)
