In our ongoing efforts to simplify the site and to be more consistent with changes to our licensing process we have made some updates to My Esri. Here is an overview of those updates:

Terminology Updates:

  • To be more consistent with licensing terminology, we have changed areas of the site that refer to 'provision' to 'license'.
    • The 'Create Provisioning File' link on the Licensing tab has been renamed 'License Esri Products'.
    • The 'Manage Existing Provisioning Files' link on the Licensing tab has been changed to 'Manage License Files'.

Streamlined Process Updates:

  • The last two steps of the licensing process have been combined to reduce the number of steps.
    • This combines the Delivery Method and Review steps into one.
  • For Products where you do not license extensions the License options have been removed.

Reporting Updates:

  • In the Authorization Activity Report we’ve removed items that are provisioned.
    • These aren’t always actually activated, so they can throw your numbers off.
  • We’ve moved the provisioned items to a new report.
    • This report will allow you to keep track of your license files and if they have been used or not.

Experience Updates:

  • A new Basic view has been added to the Licensing page that highlights the standard workflows to help you get your software up and running.
  • We’ve changed all references to ‘Provision’ to ‘License’.

I see that the new provisioning file for Portal is now a .json filetype.  The Enterprise builder does not recognize that file as a valid licensing option and the process can go no further!  Trying to do a test install prior to our production run next week, and I hit an immediate roadblock.

Also, the only option to get a Portal license file is to choose Enterprise version 10.7, which I am not too keen on.

Hi Colin,

The Enterprise builder will take the .json file in the web configuration step at 10.7. The only file it will ask for during the wizard install is the server license.

When you license in My Esri, be sure to select the version of the software you are using since the files will differ (the portal license file is a .json for 10.7 and up). 10.7 portal license files are not compatible with previous versions of the software.

Hi Hilary,

I think that is my problem.  I don't want to install Enterprise 10.7, as that is a pre-release.  I want 10.6.1, but when I select that, there is no option to get a Portal license, only an ArcGIS Server license.  The first step on the 10.6 Enterprise builder is asking for the Portal license file, which I don't have.  Is there some other way to get a Portal license (provisioning) file?

Thanks

Colin

Hi Colin, for 10.6.1, you would go to the tab on the left 'Generate Portal for ArcGIS Licenses,' select the version, and then select the number of users you want in that license file. Then head up to License Esri Products to generate the provisioning file. Can you check to see if that works? *Note there may be a short delay from when the users show as available under License Esri Products.

Great! I am always happy to hear about improvements to MyEsri especially when it makes it easier and clearer for new administrators to understand.

Licensing still needs work. Counts are way off. Showing products as Activated that are no long used and multiple instances of the same install.

Thanks for the feedback James. Data discrepancies are very important to the My Esri team. If it is ok, I would like to reach out to further understand what you are seeing.

That would be great.

Today isn't the best. I have some time Friday January 8th at 9:00AM PST.

Please note these references are made from using the Reports tool.

In general I see everything we ever deployed and most say Active. In

addition some look like duplicates, maybe these are the add ons e.g.

Network Analyst, but are not designated as such.

I'm showing 7 deployments of (10 users/lic) ArcGIS Desktop Concurrent 10.0

which we're not using any 10.0 licenses.

Recently I needed to uninstall and reinstall one of the users ArcDesktop.

From the Report tool it seems to report two.

I recently have been adding very detailed notes to help me track the

installations.

Thanks James. I look forward to further discussing this topic.
