Hi All,

I am looking at fish bone route configurations. These are currently not supported by ESRI Roads & Highways. Does anyone have written protocols involving calibration rules, steeping increments, calibration points, etc.? I am writing documentation for our staff as well as a series of "How Tos" for our communities that will be adding their own local roads to the network at a later date.  Has anyone done this yet?

Thank you,

Melany

Here at NCDOT what we have done if we need to create a fish or alpha route is to create a gap that is equal or less then 5.28' (0.001 miles). Our gap increment is set to euclidean distance. We typically gap before the first cross over.

These routes are supported in Pro. Nathan has said if you have a gap you can cartographically realign to close the gap in Pro.

Hope this helps,

Hi Melany,

As Ryan mentioned in his post, one method to support these types of route shapes in ArcMap is to create a gap where the self-intersection point is.  Another method is to take one of the parts of the self intersection and model it with a different routeID (so no one route has this complex shape any longer).

Note that these shape types are fully supported in Roads and Highways in ArcGIS Pro.
