9.3.1 and windows 7 pro or windows 8.1

I am purchasing a new computer. I currently run my Arcview on XP.  I need to know if my 9.3.1 version will run on windows 7 pro or windows 8, both 64 bit and if I will have issues.  Is there a preference from other users?

Although Win7 32-bit and 64-bit are listed as supported in the system requirements page, there's a known limit which is discussed in this technical article.
