A user in our organization is having a problem connecting ArcGIS Explorer 1500 to our Version 10 SDE database on MS SQL Server 2005 via a direct connect. His machine is a Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3 with the latest updates installed. I successfully connect to the database from his machine using a Universal Data Link (UDL) file with the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server settings and the same connection parameters as we're using for ArcGIS Explorer. Within ArcGIS Explorer's Add Geodatabase window we enter all of the parameters and hit "Next", we get a "Failed to connect to <OurUserName>" error. We've even turned off his Windows Firewall temporarily for testing and still no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

Joe,

Do you have the Data Expansion pack installed? - http://resources.arcgis.com/content/arcgis-explorer/1500/download.

Mike,

Yes, we do. I forgot to mention that with the rest of the details.

Hi Joe,
If you are attempting a Direct Connect, you may want to try installing the Microsoft SQL 2008 Native Client While it's 2008, it contains backwards compatability to 2000 and 2005.

Hope that helps,
Andrew
