Domains in ArcGIS Online

I want to set up a layer with pick lists so people can enter info in the field about curb conditions and material from a domain. I have tried this two different ways and neither one does exactly what I need.

1. Take my file geodatabase and upload to AGOL. When I do this I seem to lose my domains and thus can't set up the pick list for condition or material types

2. Set up a feature service in ArcGIS Server. This keeps the domains and you can edit them through a web browser but not very gracefully on a mobile device. If I add the service to my ArcGIS online content, it does not appear to allow you to add it to a map as an editable layer.

Any suggestions?

Douglas,

you can set up domains in a geodatabase, then add it to an MXD in ArcGIS Desktop. In the MXD use File -> Share As -> Service, to upload them to your ArcGIS Online account. This will preserve the domains.

I did that but I can't seem to add it to an ArcGIS online account as an editable layer. Feature layers that I created within ArcGIS Online will give me this option but not ones that I created as a service in Desktop/Server.

I just recently did the exact same thing with an organizational account and it worked. I guess I would need to know step by step what you did and see if I did it different.

I was not signed in to my AGOL account when I created the service. I created the service and then added it by URL to AGOL. I don't know if that would make a difference but I'll try it signed in.

Try it via the steps outlined here under "Publish from ArcMap":

I got it to work. The problem was I was publishing the service to the server and then adding it via URL. Publishing directly to "My Hosted Services" allows me to create an editable map. Thanks.
