Can ArcGIS be used to design large complex Information Technology Architecture?

Hi all,

Let me start by saying I'm new to the forum so please be gentle, secondly I'd like to say my knowledge and experience with ArcGIS is limited and definitely more conceptual.  I understand it's an extremely powerful product and was once described to me as "it's only limitation is your imagination" and let me tell you, I have a pretty wild imagination!

I'm working on a multi-year mining project, specifically on the Information and Operational Technology services and we need to design a telecommunications network spanning a large geographical area (half way across Canada) and in different geological environments (surface and 1km below surface).   So, I was wondering if there are any references to anyone using ArcGIS to create complex information technology communications network (Local & wide area networks), compute and storage architecture designs, driven by application and business functional requirements, industry and country regulatory requirements/standards etc.  If this is possible it would be great to know if ArcGIS can be used to manage the information technology infrastructure service for monitoring, event and incident management?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Chris

The short answer is yes. We are using TOGAF to develop an enterprise GIS system architecture driven by our business needs. For GIS capacity planning I would suggest looking into ESRI system design process.

Hi Brett,

Thanks for the response. We are also adopting the TOGAF standard for the

development of our proposed environment so again, thanks for the

reference. I think I've found something that may do what we're looking

for, see this
