I was wondering if there are differences in availability of tools/functionalities between purchased and free trial of ArcGIS Online? For example, if you purchase ArcGIS Online (I am guessing you purchase it by purchasing the Desktop version?), does it give you more tools to use in maps vs. when getting a free trial? If so, where can I get a list of unavailable tools in ArcGIS Online free trial?

Does ArcGIS Online require a subscription?

Yes. In order to access all the capabilities of ArcGIS Online, your organization needs to purchase an annual subscription. Free trials are also available.

service credits

is probably the limiting factor

I think another factor is the number of named users available.  With an organization account, you can share items within your organization without having to make them public to the world, all those you share with however need to have a named account.  With developer, and I'm guessing trial accounts, you must make them public for others to see.

The AGOL subscription, you get with ArcGIS Desktop, would

a) have the same expiry period as your Desktop Warranty/maintenance.

b) have a limited number of credits (say 100).

c)have the ArcGIS Pro license corresponding to your desktop license (e.g. If you have ArcGIS for Desktop Basic license, you are eligible for ArcGIS Pro license, Desktop Standard and Desktop Advanced would make you eligible for ArcGIS Pro Standard and Advanced license respectively.)

d) The number of Named Users = number of Desktop Licenses

*Additionally you can also purchase separate AGOL subscription for more credits/named users or increased time period.

With the AGOL trial license, you are eligible for

a) 200 credits

b) 60 days subscription

c) upto 5 users

d) All ArcGIS Pro licenses will be Advanced
