Using "select by location" I can get a list of Property Owners along a polyline. The Problem is the list is alphabetical. How do I make them list in the order the parcels cross the line?

Hi David,

Can you provide some more background?  How are you creating the list?  Are you using python, or are you simply viewing the attribute table?

Thanks Jake,

The parcels are a data layer that has property owners from a mdb file. and

the polyline is a kml pulled from google earth.

After selecting the parcels crossing the polyline, right click on owners

layer and "open table showing "selected features." Then save it as excel

file.

never used python... I don't use arcgis alot (not that you can tell!)

Hope that clarifies some.

Thanks!

I would use the Create Route tool on the polyline to make it a linear referenced route with measure coordinates.  Then I would use the Locate Features Along Route tool to overlay the polygons on the line.  This will add the Route ID and two measure fields to the output table.  The measure fields will sort according to the order the polygons cross the polyline in the direction the measures increase (ascending sort) or decrease (descending sort).
