I ,an environmentalist, want to make some graphs and maps, by using GIS, for a minor project.I have gathered the meterologial data of my city for last three years. This data is all about temperature, rainfall, humidity and pressure. All these statistics are contained in a .xls extension files .I want to make contrast among the figures as per city's geography with the help of map symbology. But I dont have any geographical data. Could you instruct me how to proceed further?
Do you have XY coordinates of the Met. stations (or any other unique location values)?
Actually, the data I received is from only one meteorological station at patiala.
I would continue analysis within a stats package or spreadsheet since there is a single location
I agree with Dan. Since it shows a the values captured from a single station, you might look for creating graphs in MS Excel. There can not be any comparison spatially (geographically), but only temporally.
Thanks!!
I am working now to make graphs by using excel. But ,experimentally, If I want to add some random data (coordinates)then what could be done?
You can do anything you want in excel and import the data to arcmap. Adding random coordinates would serve absolutely no purpose, In fact you would be implying location to your data beyond what you currently have. You have a point .... a location .... with attributes. You would be advised to focus on attributes summaries, either tabular or in graphical form, or examining the temporal patterns. There is no room for 'space' in your data.
