Offline base maps

Older version of the Survey123 mobile app would store ESRI base maps as they were accessed within a survey. There was a button under the Advanced tab of Settings where the cached maps could be cleared, labelled ‘Clear Map Cache’. Why did this functionality disappeared in the latest release of the Survey123 mobile app 2.0.15!

The great part of this functionality was that these maps could then be easily loaded and used offline which is critical to the surveys we’ve published.

Please bring back this function!!

Hi Scott,

I would like to understand a little more about your request. Could you provide more details around how you are using base maps, are you using custom tile packages and what functionality is different now to previously?

You mention the "Clear Map Cache" option is no longer available, how does that change your workflow in using base maps?

Regards,

Phil.

Hello Phil,

Our staff were using Survey123 offline with ESRI base maps before this functionality disappeared. Once a base map was viewed to collect a geopoint (with an internet connection) it was stored within the application and could be used offline with any of the surveys. Maps for the offline areas could be cached in advance of field work by simply opening a geopoint question in a survey, navigating to areas required for offline use, and at different scales if required. These cached maps remained in memory unless they cleared the map cache with the button provided. Once offline, base maps appeared as required.

Our workaround is to develop custom tile packages and load these with each survey, increasing the size of each survey - I've attached a 53 Mb tpk to each survey which doesn't cover the all scale levels or our entire offline area. Lots more work at the back end, bigger file size for each survey, and we no longer used the base maps provided by ESRI.

Regards,

Scott
