Hi,

I have a number of feature classes in a geodatabase stored locally, that I would like to upload to a web map on AGOL.  There are a large number of fields in each, and they are all set up with field aliases.  In order to upload the data, as far as I understand, I have to export it to shapefile and upload the shapefile as a zip.  When it is exported to shapefile I lose all of the alias names.

Is there any way of retaining the alias names, so that I don't have to enter them all again once the data has been uploaded?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Helen,

If you have an ArcGIS Online Organization account you can upload the feature classes without exporting to a shapefile.  Here are the steps to do this in ArcMap:

Publish hosted feature layers—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS

Perfect, that's exactly what I needed - thank you!
