Help with creating a traffic flow map

Hi all,

I'm a novice-intermediate ArcMap user (version 9.3.1), and I was wondering if somebody could guide me through the process of creating a traffic flow map during peak hours

I was provided with excel data of incoming and outgoing vehicles/hour and shapefiles of the city plan.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you're interested in displaying directionality of traffic flow (AM flow towards the employment center; PM flow away from the employment center) then you should be using TransCAD modeling software. Your local MPO or regional RPO will have a transportation modeler who is more familiar with TransCAD.

If total flow is what you're interested in, then ArcMap is just fine. You will need to create a sumFlow field in the attribute table, and use Properties > Symbology > Quantities > Proportional Symbols.
