Shapefile problems

Hi

I'm experiencing an inconsistent problem whilst trying to import shapefiles into ArcGIS Explorer build 1700. The shapefile is built by some custom code from geography data within a SQL Server database.
My problem is that the shape file is not consistently refused.  Sometimes the shape files import, and sometimes not.  I suspect I am doing something wrong in building the shape files, but I'm really struggling to find the problem

Is there any sort of Shape file integrity checker or validation tool? At least some idea of how to proceed.

Managed to find the problem. just another case of PEBKAC
