Can someone please provide a succinct explanation on the differences between publishing a map service as a tiled versus a feature service? I have read the help on each topic and am still not clear on what the differences and advantages are between them and how I know what type of service I want to publish.
Is this just as simple as tilled is raster data and feature is vector data?
You can think of a tiled map service as a cached map service. When you create a map cache, the server draws the entire map at several different scales and stores copies of the map images. It's much quicker for the server to return a cached image than to draw the map each time someone requests it.
