Greetings!

Over the past several months (essentially, as I've had time) I've been attempting to migrate our data to the Local Government Model. For the most part, things have gone rather swimmingly.  However, I've been searching (in vain at this point) for some sort of metadata or explanation as to the layers, and most importantly, some of the fields in these layers.  90% of them are self-explanatory.  Some, I really have no clue what is needed/expected for a particular field.

This may seem like a very general question, but is there any indepth description of the layers and or fields that comprise the Local Government Model?

Thanks!

Hello Kevin,

You can check our help system to get detailed technical information on our maps and apps for ArcGIS for Local Government.
There is also a section that is dedicated to the model, this is where you will get the metadata for the model at 10.2. Just click on the word "data dictionary" on this page. (If you would like the 10.1 information then you can go here )

The resource center gallery will link you up to all the downloads for 10.1 and 10.2.

Also, if you are interested in the descriptions of the map layers for all the LG maps you can look at the map dictionaries in the help topic below:
Cheers,
Lindsay

Apparently when this post was ported over to the new system the links didn't travel. Can someone update these links? I can never FIND the Data Dictionary, but I do tend to stumble across it when I am not even looking.

I would install X-Ray for ArcCatalog extension.  This way you can open the XML document and view the data dictionary any time you need.

I have X-Ray. It won't give me the data dictionary under the View menu. My Local Government data model is in an Enterprise SQL SDE, rather than GDB, so I'm sure that's affecting it. But my point is, finding the Data Dictionary is like searching for the lost city of Atlantis.

Do you have the LGIM xml document?  That is what you need to open, not the LGIM itself.  I understand you frustration.  Anyways, here is the link to the resource center for the LGIM.  In one of the folders you will find the data dictionary. Here is the direct link to the data dictionary.

Hi Brian,

Here is the like to the new Solutions Site section for the LGIM (This page will be kept up to date, while the old resource center pages are being retired):

Local Government Information Model | ArcGIS for Local Government

I wanted to point you to the root of the LGIM help because there are other resources here that you and others might find helpful. To get to the Data Dictionary, go to Get Started > Additional Help> Data Dictionary.

I can’t even sign in to geonet right now. I keep getting a “Forwarding to SSO” error message. Waiting for support…

This was the same issue I was having when in the same browser, I was already signed in to our Organization AGOL account, and then opening a new tab to log into GeoNet. I ended up opening a whole different browser to sign into GeoNet and a different one for AGOL.
