Since you are getting a message that the network dataset does not support directions then that is the most likely cause. Use catalog to bring up the properties of your network dataset and click on the Directions tab. What does it say there? Does it support directions? If not, you will have to change the properties of this and rebuild your network dataset.
So for the last week or so, i have been working on a project, and have been able to generate directions in the past. However now every time i try to generate directions i receive the error
"Failed to Generate directions. Network dataset does not support driving directions."
I did this several times, didn't work:
The only thing that seems to work i just nuking my entire network dataset and recreating everything (which i absolutely do not want to do).
I have restarted ArcGIS, repaired ArcGIS, everything seems fine. I am guessing somehow my network dataset has become corrupt?
I am using ArcGIS 10
I have same this problem with arcgis10, please any 1 help me how to resolve this problem
What network dataset are you using?
See my earlier post and tell me if your network dataset says that it supports providing directions.
Without any details, it is not possible to provide any useful help.
i followed your steps and i found (direction)it marked:yes,it is work
look at this pic
The error message you are getting says that the "directions configuration file" is invalid.
Did you edit or change this file? It is located in:
If you have not changed this file, then it could be some data related issue. It appears from
the screen shot you are using old 9.3 tutorial data. Can you use the 10.0 tutorial data
and see if the problem goes away.
thank u very much,
i do not make any change in direction configuration file, and i tried to work arcgis 10 data and still message error appears
If you are unable to generate directions on the tutorial data then I will suggest that you contact ESRI technical support so that they may diagnose the issue and see what may be going on.
thank you for interesting
thank you again
I have the same problem. did anyone find a solution ?
I had the same problem with failed to generate directions.
I managed to solve it by changing my regional settings to EN-US on my computer. There is probably some kind of error in how cultures are handled when generating the directions.
for a network dataset to allow directions, all participating features classes should have a text field
I had the same issue with the ND reporting "Directions: Yes" in ArcGIS 10, but still displaying an error when attempting to open the directions.
Here are the steps that worked for me:
- Configure the directions settings in the ND
- Rebuild the ND
- Close and reopen ArcMap
- Resolve the route
Closing/reopening ArcMap is the main thing I was missing. I guess it doesn't pick up on the change in the ND until it is reloaded.
