We're a SAAS-only client, so no Pro to use. (I guess maybe we'll get into Pro when they begin the new licensing structure? It sure would solve a lot of problems.)

I have a question about creating a new hosted feature layer from and old one, "cloning" it, essentially via the create item dialog. It works, it's great, but I don't get exactly why it names things and has a subsidiary item in it that is the old name? 1. I go to "new item" select "feature layer". 2. select "select an existing feature layer" 3. select "old layer" 4. go thru the options, get to the "new item" dialog where you name it and save it. 5. success! But if you open the "new layer" made from "old layer", it holds a layer item named "old layer" of type "point layer" still? why? why is the old name kept? what is best practice at this point? I usually rename it to "new layer" to avoid later confusion. Why does this sub-item exist? Why doesn't it get named appropriately automatically? What is best practice for doing this workflow?

I just was reading the announcement of the new licensing scheme. We are an all AGOL & BAO shop, so I was interested to see that ArcPro is no included for authors? E.g. that ESRI is going agnositc on web vs desktop for users? Did I understand that correctly?

Nope. But it is a problem because many of us in corporate-land are barred from suing any of the plugins from AppSource--like the new M365 Esri for Excel. Which is a huge bummer cuz he use it for a very common workflow that is a pain in AGOL otherwise. Plus, a lot of cool stuff in the M365 version! ESRI actually responded to my questino about that...but I think there's no way they are going to support 2 sets of anything for these plugins.

But ESRI must have some plan to replace this vital functionality. We use traffic counts as a standard part of our site selection. Here's the view of this layer from ESRI's gallery page.

This is probably stupid, but what is the status of the USA Traffic Counts layer from ESRI? I just opened the 2023 version and it says it is deprecated. What is the correct layer now? Is there a different workflow for traffic data? I liked the old layers fine... Thank You.

Thanks for the reply! That looks like a BAO workflow? Which I figured might be a way to do it. Since we do 90% of our work in AGOL, I wanted to keep it there. It turns out the Living Atlas has a point layer and a boundary layer that work perfectly, containing the correct FIPS for the city of Phoenix in my case, so enrichment works properly. My BAO skills are so rusty. When we were new to ESRI we spent 90% of our time in BAO, not it's the reverse with AGOL since our skills have improved and allow for more detailed analysis and display. Cheers!

Yes, that is an instant fix. Good to know. But the weird part is these layers "fix themselves" after a couple of weeks if you do nothing. Very weird.

Actually, I knew about the enrichment process, I'm quite an experienced user. What I didn't know was that the Living Atlas had a good layer for US cities, that would have the proper FIPS # for the area. This layer was good for the boundaries, and carried the correct FIPS for city of Phoenix. USA 2020 Census Population Characteristics - Place Geographies https://services.arcgis.com/P3ePLMYs2RVChkJx/arcgis/rest/services/USA_Census_2020_DHC_Total_Population_Place/FeatureServer The numbers tied out with the source table, so all was good. Thanks!

I want to get the ESRI demographics like population, median income, etc. for a city...in this case the city of Phoenix? I want to enrich it or get a number out of AGOL or BAO somehow?

Hello. I have the same question. I have AGOL and BAO (web) and need to know the ESRI pop for city of Phoenix. How do I get it? Is there an enrichment of some boundary by city from census and ESRI? Or is there a canned report in BAO?

AND THEY'RE MAGICALLY FIXED AGAIN. Yep, takes like a week to be messed up, and then ESRI magically fixes them and they work properly again. Very weird. Please fix this ESRI, when we make layers, it's because we are likely working on deadline and can't afford this type of error. Cheers!

It has been officially end-of-lifed by ESRI in favor of the Office365 type plugins, sadly. I can't even find an old one hanging around anywhere. Last filename I had was: "ArcGISMapsForOffice_x64_2020.1.1_en" for 64-bit Excel, there was a companion for 32-bit as well. Some scammy-looking d/l sites seem to have it, but who knows what they really are?

Yeah, I knew that trick...but I was hoping ESRI had fixed the underlying problem by now. I might as well wait as the layers do "fix themselves" some time later. I'm not gonna spend any more time on recreateing the layers when I have them funcional in the map I need for near term use. Such a weird error!
