Thanks for this rule David, this is just amzing! I took the liberty of tweaking this rule for a European/Scandinavian highway style. Agian, thanks and keep up the good work. -Jørn

Hi there Matthew and thanks for your answer! This would be a perfect workflow if I should pulish to the city engine web viewer, but in this case I want to pulish the trees as scene services, so that i can open them in the "new" scene viewer: Web Scene Viewer

Hi all! Does some knows if it is possible to publish preset layers as a sceneservice/web layer to view in the scene viewer? I really need to publish some trees to my scene and this paper says it is possible: However in my arcgis PRO (got a environment where everything is configured right, publications of multipatches works great) I cannot publish this: Publish as a Web Scene results in a empty service. Some got any idea? Thanks!

Hi Mark, It is not possible to share as a web scene / web layer directly to ArcGIS Online. You have to first publish to your portal for ArcGIS and use this service in your ArcGIS online Scene viewer. -Jørn

Again, thank you for the answer Cheryl! What has happened since my last post: I managed to get the poles to follow the terrain by actually using interpolate shape tool. But ass you predicted this wont work as intended. I have isolated it down to perhaps have something to do with the drawingorder of the start- and endpoint of the underlying polygon. Ass you see here the orientation of the vertices on the polygon is not following the same drawingorder. It seems to me that they are following "a north-south rule" (the northrn vertex is always the start- and endpoint) This is important, because the rule is telling that the non-start-/endside of a polygon should start with a power pole and the other side should end with a power cable. Do you got any ideas how I could have a concise drawingorder of the vertices (same for all the polygon pieces)?

Thanks Cheryl, this has no effect on the results, but always better with a cleaner script

Hi I am making a rule of some powerlines (which should be used as a .rpk to symbolize a polygon (powerline path) in ArcGIS Pro) I am having some issues with the rule file/best practice in ArcGIS Pro, and hope that some of you could help me out here Here is what I do: I have created a simpel .cga script: version "2015.2" attr avstand = 200 // gap between the poles attr hoyde = 30 // hight attr bredde = 20 // width attr farge = "#808080" // color hatta = "assets/Sketchup/LyseMastNormal5.dae" //asset (both powerline and pole merged) @InPolygon @StartRule trase --> alignScopeToGeometry(yUp, any, longest) split(x){~avstand: alignScopeToGeometry(yUp,0) lagHoyspent}* lagHoyspent --> alignScopeToGeometry(yUp, world.lowest, longest) r(90,90,90) #t(0,0,0) s(bredde, hoyde, avstand) center(x) i(hatta) color (farge) Which results in this in city engine: The rule in a tilted direction Just the asset, a collada file .dae I export the rule as a .rpk file Open arcgis Pro and creates a polygon on a flat surface (water) I then assign the. rpk as a procedural layer to the symbology of my polygon feature class And voila, everything works like a charm: Unfortunately, the terrain here in Norway is not as flat as shown in the picture, we got steep hills and mountains where the powerline’s are going, and here is where the problems are starting. Here is what happens when I create a polygon in an area with some relief (the elevation of the feature class is set to “on the ground”): The Powerline is floating in the air My questions: How can you “snap” the symbols /powerlines to the polygon when not flat? How can you aligne the polygon to the surface (in arc scene the function floating on a custom surface) in arcgis Pro? Interpolate surface won’t do it And since I am presenting procedural symbols the feature class must be visualized as a polygon in the 3d Layers. Regards Jørn

Hi, Does some know if it is possible to write a .cga rule (a trim() or a split with a NIM? maybe make a comp split?) where you "erase", a part of a building with a "erase object", like this (erase the red area where it intersects with the white buildings): Regards Jørn

Thanks Cheryl, this was helpful! This Model Hierarchy window is such a great “tool” for debugging your .cga code!

Hi Ben, This works like a charm, thanks. Do you know if its possible to center the object to the polygon (without manually adjust by using the t() ) , because now my power line is floating in the air and it is not centered to the source polygon? Regards Jørn

Hi Cheryl, Thank you for your answer. How ewer I still canot figure out how this alignScopeToGeometry() is working: Here is some of my rule now: @InPolygon @StartRule trase --> alignScopeToGeometry(yUp, any, longest) split(x){~avstand: alignScopeToGeometry(yUp,0) lagHoyspent}* lagHoyspent --> extrude(hoyde) center(xz) r(0,0,0) t(0,0,0) s(bredde, hoyde, avstand) i(poleAsset) color (farge) And this results in: What am I missing here ? Thank you! Regards Jørn

I am working on a project where the goal is to symbolize a power line network in 3D. My idea is to write a .cga-rule, which I’m “converting” to a .rpk and use this .rpk as a procedural fill symbol on a polygon layer (since line geometry is not supported for procedural fill) in arcgis pro. I have written the .cga rule, but I have hit some bumps on the road: Is there possible to write in the code, so the split function follows the direction of the source (the polygon).? Figur 1 Here you see the rule where the split(x){~avstand: alignScopeToGeometry(zUp,0) lagHoyspent}* is active. It works perfect if the polygon is orientated in the y-direction and the split is set to ~x*. Figur 2: And here we see the same rule on a polygon orientated along the x axis. Thank you all for looking in to this Kind regards Jørn

Good morning from Norway! I assume most of you who participates in this group is quite excited and looking forward to the release of 10.3 and of course the caching services for 3D-features. Most of you have probably seen the video/presentation where publishing 3D content to Portal is shown. It looks really cool and I think this is one of the things that we are missing in 3D-GIS. I am so lucky that I got to test the pre-release of 10.3 and ArcGIS Pro. So my question: To be able to publish a 3D-service to my portal it says in the documentation: "All scene services begin inside ArcGIS Pro where you author a 3D scene. When you've finished authoring and are ready to publish, select the desired 3D layers in the Contents pane, right-click, and choose Share As Web Layer" This is also shown in the presentation from UC2014: Here we see that when you right-click the layers under 3D-layers you got the option Share as web layer. Here is what happening when i'm doing the same thing: As you see the option is grayed out. I am trying to publish a multipatch, is this the right format? because it's realy looks like Gert and the crew are publishing multipatches in the presentation (first screen-dump). I have done this steps: You'll need to install and set up the following ArcGIS components in order to create a scene service and share it as a web scene: ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS for Server ArcGIS Data Store Portal for ArcGIS Once the components are installed, you'll need to configure ArcGIS Data Store with your server, federate the server with your portal, and designate ArcGIS Server as the hosting server. Some who got a clue? Thanks! Regards Jørn
