FWIW, I was able to solve my problem and get the RegisterToken method to work. My issue was the referer parameter that was used when requesting a token. Make sure that maps back to the host that is serving the page. In reference to the code above, I believe you'll need to call signIn on the Portal object before it will start appending tokens on requests. The IdentityManager and Portal objects seem to work together to pull that off: new arcgisPortal.Portal("https://www.arcgis.com").signIn().then(function (portalUser) { //use portal here }

Did this issue ever get resolved? I'd like to do a similar thing (get a token out-of-band, and populate IdentityManager with it). I'm seeing the same result, where I can call registerToken(), and it seems to work, but interactions with the Portal objects never append the registered token.

Hi Jake - Thanks for the reply! It seems to me like many of these things can be done without a registered app. For example, providing a subset of a webmap functionality in a convenient UX, or prompting the user for credentials (which happens when loading a secure WebMap even without a registered app). Those could be done with straight JS, and no registered app. So it sounds like the one added benefit of a registered app is the ability to discover the app. I'm guessing there are more pros/cons to consider, like oauth logon scenarios etc.? The App Register link in your post is exactly where my follow-up question came from. If we're making a straight JS app that uses Web Maps, and we decided to register an app, when would we choose the various options under "purpose" (step 4 in your link)? And what impact would the selection have? Thanks Again

We have a desire to create a custom JS application that consumes a secure WebMap (not publicly available). This same JS app would be deployed to multiple customers, each pointing at their own secure WebMap. My question is, is there any benefit (or requirement) to create an "app"? I'm guessing we could prompt the user for their AGOL credentials, get a token, and then allow access to this WebMap via the token. So there likely isn't a need for an "app" in this workflow, correct? When looking at the possibility of using an "app", would that just allow us to register our JS app's URL as a place that users could share their AGOL contents with? Is that really any different then us asking them to log in, and then using their token to gain access to their AGOL contents? <Bonus Points:> When looking into adding an App for this, the "purpose" field isn't very clear. Selecting "ready to use", "configurable", "self-configurable" or "code sample" just adds more questions for me in regard to if an app is needed. Is there anywhere that explains the purpose of these options in more than just 1 sentence?

Thanks. I knew Dojo 2 was planned to be released this fall, and Esri's 4.0 is only beta 1 or beta 2 by this fall. I was wondering how closely Esri is watching Dojo 2, and possible plans to incorporate it into the first 4.0 production release. Sounds like it's being discussed/considered, which is good to know.

I see the current JS Beta uses Dojo 1.10.4. Are there any plans to incorporate Dojo 2 in future betas or prior to the full release?

I'm just starting to get a feel for Web AppBuilder. When creating custom widgets, what level of interaction is expected with existing "out of the box" widgets? For example, if my widget wants to select a specific item in the AttributeTable widget, there doesn't seem to be a great API for something like that. Is that accurate or am I missing something? If this type of interaction would be required, is the expectation that developers would extend the existing widgets and build this functionality themselves? Thanks -Brian

Thanks Robert. I'm playing around with a custom widget, and I do have SignalR push notifications communicating. Looks like this is very possible.

I'm new to Web App Builder. Has anyone attempted to leverage push technologies (e.g. SignalR) in a custom widget? I'm unfamiliar with the WAB moving pieces, so I'm wondering if there are any technical reasons that this wouldn't be possible. Thanks!

We're starting to evaluate which JS pieces to leverage for a new application, which will be replacing a Silverlight app. We were going to start out with Angular as a core piece of the puzzle, until noticing a comment here: Esri/angular-esri-map · GitHub when we have tried to use Angular on single-page, full-screen mapping applications, we have found ourselves working against the framework. Can someone give a tangible explanation of how this went bad? Are there alternative frameworks that make more sense for a full-screen mapping application? Our application is very map-centric, and it has many layers and interactions with map elements.

Has anyone seen problems with GraphicsLayers not redrawing after longer periods of time (~15 minutes)? We have an application that puts route graphics on the map for navigation purposes. When a long route is travelled, the GPS unit moves many times across the route graphic. Often times after 10-15 minutes we'll see the route graphic disappear for a stretch of road, then it eventually comes back about 30 seconds later. When this happens it really seems like the graphics layer didn't redraw over certain tiles. Then panning far enough off the map grabs enough new tiles for the graphics layer to redraw - putting the route back on the map. An example image is attached. (Don't mind the GPS direction - it's actually going SE. This simulator doesn't have heading data). In this instance I stopped the simulator, and the route didn't redraw for 5+ minutes. I could pan around this immediate area, and the route would not come back. Once I panned far enough down the route to need more tiles, the route came back. Any insight would be helpful to track this down. It really feels like an Esri redraw issue, so I'm not sure there's much we can do on our side?

Hello - I have various JS FeatureLayers on my map, and I want to hook in some logic when a feature/graphic is clicked. This works fine using the "click" event, however, mobile devices have difficulty selecting certain features/graphics. We have some point/line symbols that are fairly small, making it difficult to tap with a mobile device. Is there a simple way to buffer these taps when hooking into the FeatureLayer click event? Or possibly a tolerance setting that I didn't see, similar to the Identify task? This seems like it has to be a common problem when moving to touch-based devices, so I don't want to reinvent something. Thanks!

Hello - In looking into dojo modules, I'm simply trying to define a private instance member, and then eventually some get/set properties around them. This is very easy to do with traditional JS object definitions. In my research into dojo modules (via declare), this doesn't seem to be so simple. I've seen that they can be identified as private via the leading "_" naming convention, but this doesn't actually make them private. I've also seen how a private object can be declared within a module. This essentially gives a private container for other private items, which is closer but not quite a simple private member. I wanted to know if I'm missing something, or if this is just how dojo modules work? Thanks -Brian
