Hi All, I'm creating a simple label expression using two fields [ZONECAT] & vbnewline & "<FNT size='8'>" & [ZONING] & "</FNT>" [ZONECAT] has an abbreviation dictionary which I would like to use. How can I assign the abbreviation to just the [ZONECAT] field in the expression? My expression currently displays the unabbreviated [ZONECAT] value. Thank in advance.

Okay..I'm sure this has been asked before but here goes; ArcServer 10.2 with no image extension, so I cannot publish directly from a mosaic dataset. 20 ortho imagery in TIF format At ArcGIS 10.0, I would create a MXD and simply add all 20 TIF images to my MXD and create a map service and then create a tiled cache. [ATTACH=CONFIG]31385[/ATTACH] Now at ArcGIS 10.21, I was trying something different....I created a Mosaic Raster Dataset using all 20 TIF images and then generated a tile cache from the Mosaic dataset. After the tile generation, I can use the cache and create an image service. [ATTACH=CONFIG]31384[/ATTACH] I'm wondering which is better method is better in terms of performance? Also, using a mosaic dataset appear to look better too.

In ArcToolbox, just use the Create Mobile Map tool in the Mobile Tools toolbox. Just put in the name of your mxd and then where you want the map cache to be created. Then copy the map cache to your device. Hey Robert, I can "Create Mobile Map" via the Mobile Toolbox ...but when I open the mobile cache in "Mobile Project Center" the map cache is Added as an Operational Layer and NOT as a Basemap.

Hey Ryan, I also was making the operational layers as "Unedittable". I wonder if ESRI will comment on this thread? Ryan: have you tried creating a mobile map using your own aerial photos? I'd love to use our inhouse aerials as a layer...but I'm guessing it is a lot of data to move to a mobile device. BTW: I'm using a windows tablet.

Hi All, I'm creating an out-of-the box mobile application and I can't figure out how to create a cached basemap. I am using ArcInfo and ArcMobile. I don't have ArcServer yet. I can create operational layers but how do you create a cached basemap without ArcServer? I've read thru the forum and help pages to find additional informaiton with little success. Anyone willing to share information on how to do this? I've create a mxd file to use as a basemap but then what? When I create "mobile map" using arctools, mobile project center recognized the mobile map as an "operational layer" and not a basemap. Thx in advance.

Thank you Ryan and Denise! This drop-down list capability is a big part of getting good field collection.

Okay..I'm having trouble with creating a mobile base map. I don't have arcserver 10 running...so I need to create and load the basemap using arcview or arcinfo...via a usb memory stick. Is there anything in ArcTools that creates a mobile basemap layer to use in Arcmobile 10? I've read several different forum posts on this issue and it appears I'm not alone. Anyone?

Finally got an operational layer working.... 1) Converted shapefiles to a file geodatabase and added global ids 2) Design mxd file using file geodatabase 3)) Use Mobile Tools > Create Mobile Map (make sure you close your mxd file before selecting and create the mobile map) Create Mobile Map appears to error if you have the mxd file open. 4) Copy mobile cache to mobile device. Now got to figure out how to create a base map? Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks Denise, I couldn't quite understand the presenter in "Using ArcGIS Mobile with ArcGIS Desktop" as she was moving thru the slides quite quickly and it didn't help she had an accent as well. Anyhow, I'll convert to a file geodatbase and then add the global ids...and try again. To anyone who's trying this for the first time like me....you will need to install a global id patch for arcview desktop. Hi All, I'm new to ArcGIS mobile 10 and been trying to figure out how to create my first project. I've installed ArcView 10 on my desktop pc and ArcMobile 10 on a windows tablet pc. In Arcview 10 I've created a map document ("mxd") with several different shapefiles stored locally on my desktop pc. What tool do I use in ArcToolbox to export my mxd file to arc mobile format to use as a "basemap" or "operational" layer? I don't have ArcServer yet, so I'm trying to do this via ArcView --> Arc Mobile. (I'd like to export to an arc mobile format that I can save on my tablet pc via a usb memory stick) I looked around the forums without any specific details. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
