Hello! I've got a bit of a complicated question. Here's what I want to do. I've got an existing street network that's broken down into segments (intersection to intersection). What I want to automate is this.... When I'm adding a new road to an existing segment (at a location where there is no existing intersection). I want the existing road to split at the point where I add the new road (create two segments from the original, and thus an intersection). I've looked at attribute assistant, and can't seem to see if there's a tool for that. I tried the Split Intersecting Feature, and I don't think it works when it's trying to split itself. I've looked at the topology rules, and can't seem to find anything that fits what I'm trying to do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can automate the split? Cheers,

Hello! I've got a more complicated question this time. I'm working with a road file. I have a large dataset with road name information. The way we've created our dataset is to have each part of the road name in it's own field...for example Base Name, Street Type, Street Suffix, Street Direction, Street Prefix, and so on. I'm attempting to populate the Full Street Name field (string), but at least two of the above mentioned fields are sub-types. So I can't use field calculator (datatype mismatch). At this moment, I'm using the Domain to Table tool and joining the created tables to my Street Name Table, then using field calculator. It works, but I'm thinking that there has to be some type of code that I can use to get around the subtype issue. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the code examples! I was able to use one of them successfully....however, I didn't take into account some of the complexities that were mentioned. I'm going to have to write a script thats a bit more complicated! Cheers!

Hi everyone, I'm working with a large dataset, and I want to do something simple, but it's been a long time since I've used code. I'm familiar with VB and somewhat with python. I have full road names...(ex. Main Street, First Street) in one field. I need to populate another field with just the 'Main' or 'First' parts of the road name. I'm pretty sure it's a simple script, and I have a lot of records to calculate. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but in the ArcToolbox > Data Management Tools > Domains > Table to Domain... You can create your domain using this tool then set the domain to the fields you require it. Hope that helps.
