Ah. That was what I was missing. I thought it was refering to the parameters list above, and could not figure out what was different above it. Thank you.

Hi Sheri, Did this end up working? I have a model where at one part Summary Statistics are created for a feature class, then later on I create a new field and would like to calculate the new field by taking the summary field and dividing it by a constant. However, I cannot complete the Calculate Field tool in the model as the model does not recognize that the summary field exists. I was hoping to know if the method worked, so I could write an expression for the Calculate Field tool using the exclimation points. Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to create a custom Single Output Map Algebra script so that I can have my user input values to run a model in Model Builder. As of now, I cannot find a way to connect SOMA to a variable in Model Builder, and saw no answer on a thread on that subject. Therefore I turned to python, but I am fairly new with python, so I was hoping someone could spot the error I've made in creating this script.
import sys, string, os, arcgisscripting
gp = arcgisscripting.create(9.3)
gp.overwriteoutput = 1
msgNotEnoughParams = 'Incorrect number of input parameters.'
if len(sys.argv) < 1: raise Exception, msgNotEnoughParams
DEMraster = gp.GetParameterasText(0)
inputValue1 = gp.GetParameterasText(1)
inputValue2 = gp.GetParameterasText(2)
inputValue3 = gp.GetParameterasText(3)
outputRaster = gp.GetParameterasText(4)
xmap = gp.GetParameterasText(5)
ymap = gp.GetParameterasText(6)
gp.SingleOutputMapAlgebra_sa("ATan((" + inputValue3 + " - " + DEMraster + ") // ( sqrt(sqr(" + inputValue1 + " - " + xmap + ") + sqr(" + inputValue2 + " - " + ymap + "))))")
I'm currently getting this error: <class 'arcgisscripting.ExecuteError'>: Failed to execute. Parameters are not valid. ERROR 000859: The required parameter Output raster is empty, or is not the type of Raster Dataset. Failed to execute (SingleOutputMapAlgebra). Failed to execute (CustomMapAlgebra). Any help on why this is happening would be much appreciated!

Figured it out - needed to set the extent, snap raster, and cell size in the "Model Properties" to make it run. Put "$$xmap" in the "Map Algebra expression" text box and it ran fine.

Luke (or anyone else who can help), I've read your post on this thread, and your thread on the old forums (http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=1740&t=182407&mc=6#msgid538607), but I'm struggling to get the $$xmap scalar variable to work with the SOMA tool. It works in the Raster Calculator, but since I am trying to create a model, I need to use the SOMA tool. At the moment, I am trying $$xmap = (D:\...\Base Data\dem3_4m) in the "Map Algebra expression" box, and have tried variations including switching the order of variables, spaces and no spaces, no equal sign, etc. I still get an error saying that "$$xmap = is not a valid function or operator." I also cannot find where it would be in the "Usage" listing. I am currently running ArcView 9.3.1 SP 2 with the Spatial Analyst extension, on Windows 7. Thank you for any ideas you might have!

When discussing "publishing a service", my meaning, and I believe Mark's meaning, had to do with ArcGIS Server. You can get more information on that here: http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.3.1/dotNet/ From what I've read, on this thread and others, I don't believe there is a way. Threre also will not be a way in the upcoming release of ArcGIS Explorer 1500. However, if I'm wrong, someone please let me know. I'd love a way to upload shapefiles, etc, to ArcGIS Explorer Online.

Thank you for the confirmation, Mark. I guess this means I'll need to find a way to create a service.

Hello, My eventual goal is to have a link on my website that directly links to a map in ArcGIS Explorer Online, so that visitors to my site can view and interact with the map without having to download any new program. To accomplish this goal, my attempt was to create a map using ArcGIS Explorer, upload it to My Content on ArcGIS.com, and then try to open it using ArcGIS Explorer Online. If a group was needed to publish the map, I was prepared to create one. However, I have been unable to find a way to open it in this manner. So far, all I can do is open it again via ArcGIS Explorer. Is there a way to convert it to ArcGIS Explorer Online? I looked at creating it directly with ArcGIS Explorer Online, but I only have shapefiles and layer files to create my map, not map services. Reading through the help, I found I would need map services to build directly through there, and since I have no access to ArcGIS Server, the possibility for creating said service seems dim. Reading an earlier thread, I believe it will soon be possible to link ArcGIS Explorer to my website, and can wait for that functionality to become availible. The thread is http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/7444-Question-on-ArcGIS-Explorer-Online . Any advice on a way to open via ArcGIS Explorer Online, or advice on a different method to achieve my goal would be very much appriciated. Thank you.
