I've worked closely with Esri Canada Technical support to shed light on a workflow: Three system versions were identified that were tied to the DEFAULT version. With these system versions dating back to five years ago, I won't be reconciling and posting these versions to the DEFAULT version as this increases likelihood I'll be introducing errors. Also, since I don't have any named versions, there isn't a need to compress the old EGDB. A Context-Menu 'Copy and Paste' will copy feature classes with the state of the DEFAULT version over to the NEW EGDB. To note, the NEW EGDB will be Non-Versioned I can decide to specify the NEW EGDB as Versioned if editing is required by multiple people, which isn't the case.

Hi, I am looking to use the Context Menu to move feature classes from one Enterprise Geodatabase to another Enterprise Geodatabase. Intended Process I will be using ArcGIS Pro 2.7.6, looking to 'right-click' OLD EGDB feature layers to COPY then to PASTE to NEW EGDB feature layers. See below for particulars The Old EGDB : GDB Version 10.2 / Sql Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise The New EGDB: GDB Version 10.9.0.2.8 / Sql Server 2019 on Windows Server 2019 Standard Hired Consultant Advice Follow the steps below. Reconsile and Post to Default the OLD EGDB Delete all versions except for Default the OLD EGDB Compress the OLD EGDB Unregister the OLD EGDB Chosen to 'Context-Menu' COPY Feature Classes from OLD to NEW EGDB Register the NEW EGDB Seven Questions 1. For Step 1 - do I simply run GP tool 'Reconcile Versions?' OR could I 'context-menu' the OLD EGDB, access 'Versions' and 'Reconcile/Post' each branch version individually? 2. Do I simply DEL branch versions as revealed in 'Versions' as revealed in the above process? 3. Run GP tool - 'Compress' on OLD EGDB? 4. Run GP tool - 'Unregister As Versioned' on OLD EGDB.? also - with this OLD EGDB still in Production, would I have to run GP tool ' Register as Versioned' to get it working as normal afterwards? 5. Are there any marked advantages of a 'Paste Special' opposed to a regular 'Paste' when using the Context-Menu to migrate feature classes? 6. Run GP tool - 'Register as Versioned' on NEW EGDB? I am treading lightly as my OLD EGDB is still in a production environment. I wouldn't want to make the OLD EGDB in-operable while trying to migrate data to the NEW EGDB. Looking forward to any advise anyone has on these topics, sorry it's allot. Thanks in advance.

I find it surprising, official documents on 9-1-1 would have cartoons like that, guess our government has a ‘good’ sense of humour.

Hi there Chris, Thanks for your replies – appreciate it. Here’s some background about where I’m coming from. Our Fire Department is looking to purchase a mass notification service. The service is configured to use telephone numbers for notification. I am thinking LAN numbers are the way to go because they are associated to a particular location, whereas mobile is not. So if a database of LAN telephone numbers could be had, I would have it linked to this service for it to notify. So I am looking to get LAN telephone numbers for each parcel in the Town of Sidney. And to answer your question, no, it’s not an office scenario. Jesse

Hi Geo Community: I am looking to get LAN(Local Area Network) telephone numbers that are associated with properties here in the Town of Sidney, British Columbia. Does anyone know how to get these numbers? The Town's internal database is incomplete. Utility companies which have these numbers are private, so there may be issues with access. Is there a publically available database I can access telephone numbers, with properties associated with them? At the very least, telephone numbers with geo-reference. I can always do an overlay to get what parcels are associated to where the telephone numbers are positioned. Thanks! Jesse

Hi Kamrul I've navigated to your public facing web map. I've seen your suite of tools you have available - thanks for sharing. Your 'Get Street View' tool is great to provide 'on the ground' context. This helps me to spark other ideas, cool! Jesse

What are essential tools, every local government organization should have on their public facing Web Map? I know of one, which is a tool to generate Mailing Labels from selected parcels, any others?

I am currently using FME to push data from CAD to my Enterprise GDB. The CAD Text I want to push to an Annotation feature class. What goes along with this text are leader lines showing where the text is referring too. Q. Can I simply specify polyline geometry for the Annotation feature class, and have the FME script push these lines as well into the Annotation feature class? If this can be done, I can limit the number of feature classes to create. Currently, I create a separate polyline feature class to store leader lines. Thanks for your input, Jesse

For some reason, ArcGIS is able to populate records of a VIEW table created with no problems! I created the VIEW table in SQL Server 2008 and then previewed it after bringing it into ArcGIS by creating a database connection to it. I was also able to successfully join it to a GIS layer using a common attribute key field. Perhaps ArcGIS is especially designed to access VIEWS? So a subset table...maybe my original table was too big for ArcGIS to handle, perhaps too many fields? Not sure at all but with VIEWS, I'm in the race again. Thanks for all the input everybody. Being a new-be, you're a great encouragement. Jesse

Well...I've upgraded the database from SQL SERVER 2005 to 2008. I then proceeded to do the database link, Tables remain unpopulated!!! It took be quite some time troubleshooting to resolve a database attachment issue, disheartening to see that at the end, the database connection error still remains, out of steam, out of luck - anyhow, any more leads in the matter? on a side note...please mention the version of ArcGIS being used for a better understanding (my guess, it's either 10.1 or 10.2....SQL Server 2005 is not supported with either). Also, its preferable to have the SQL Server and the Native Client at the same version (2005 in your case).... I am running ArcGIS for Desktop v10.1 and trying to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database. Due to the incompatibility, this would explain for no records showing up. I have spent the last two days doing the upgrade of the database from 2005 to 2008. I've come across a bunch of issues with this as well, I think my new-be colors are really shining now! If interested here is the thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/a22f8480-9f65-4c2c-99fe-e14edf31d31e/cannot-access-mdf-files-for-database-attachement#a22f8480-9f65-4c2c-99fe-e14edf31d31e Appreciate all that contributed, just learnt how to give points for helpful tips. Be more on-top of that for next time. I will post results after I have the 2008 upgrade successful and can access tables in ArcGIS 10.1

I think his suggestion might be to ensure that the user you are connecting with in ArcCatalog has been assigned to something like the db_datareader role within the database. Technically, a user account can exist and connect but have no permissions to see any records. So, you have a user login set up at the SQL Server instance level and there should be a corresponding user created within the database for that particular login. In SQL Server Studio Manager, if you can log in as an administrator or the 'sa' account then you can expand the database properties to see the Security section. Under the user in question, right click to see the properties and then ensure that it has been assigned to at least one role. Hi William regarding Michael's post: Appreciate the heads-up William. I should be good regarding setting up of the User Log-in. I created it in the security folder and had it map to the appropriate database. As for roles, I gave it reader privileges, so it should be good here.
