Hi I have a point layer in ArcGIS Pro. I want to make an animation (tour), visiting each point in turn. I think this needs me to make a set of bookmarks, and I would like to do this in code as I have many points. i.e. a point_to_bookmark function. Is this feasible? Thanks, Steve

Not sure if the necessary postgres client dll's are on the install media - I don't get to see DVD's any more these days, but what is strange is that these are not automatically deployed as part of the install process. At 10.1 you DO have to manually copy the dll's to your bin directory - surely this could be an install option (ask user which db they are using, and deploy the relevant dll's)? Anyway, the workaround is to find the dll's listed below. If you are registered properly with the ESRI customer care portal you can apparently get them there, we got them from our international distributor.... Windows 32-bit PostgreSQL 9.0.5 Client Libraries: Libpq.dll Libeay32.dll Libintl-8.dll Ssleay32.dll Place these files in the bin folders of your Windows 32-bit Esri client application. I will no doubt post some further examples of our adventures in PostGIS/ArcGIS integration, but for now am happy to report that with the above fix we are able to use our PostGIS tables.........

Hi I have written some python code that goes recursively through a filesystem, lists all datasets and either a) generates a stub metadata file if none exists (ISO19139), or b) converts the existing MD file to ISO19139. I then put all the 19139 metadata into GeoNetwork. So far, so good. Only now I have encountered some old metadata that is in the pre ArcGIS10 format and needs to be upgraded. How can I test for this in code and perform the upgrade? existing_xml = os.path.join(dirname, dataset + '.xml') #this checks that a dataset has an xml file, not very elegant, as it could be any xml and not necessarily a metadata file, and I have no way of distinguishing between ESRI-ISO, FGDC and other schema if arcpy.Exists(existing_xml): # do the conversion arcpy.ESRITranslator_conversion (existing_xml, translator, r'\\export\outputfile.xml') # this fails if the MD is pre ArcGIS10 Thanks Steve

Hello again The 10.1 release of Data Interoperability will be unicode aware. Regards Of course this does beg the question why it has taken until 10.1 to support Unicode........? Steve
