Great thread. We are seeing some strange group membership issues, did this get resolved? Users who have long been a part of a SAML/ad group lost access to that content but re still members of the AD group, just not the Portal Group. It's like here today(group membership) gone tomorrow and for one user I had to delete their account and start over

yeah....starting at 3x. Thanks for pointing that out Kory. The clearing cache by the "now" option does only clear out 2 of the folders: \AppData\Local\ESRI\Local Caches\MapCacheV1 \AppData\Local\ESRI\Local Caches\BmLCacheV2 I am recommending you dump everything in \AppData\Local\ESRI\Local Caches

That's a great way to look at it. Same for me! HA Since this, we had a new development. One thing that was slowing us down with feature services was with some caching of domains. Sometimes that would time out, or take nearly 1 minute to resolve. Working a case with ESRI we found that just switching that rest call (just for queryDomains https://OURSERVER/WEBsrv/rest/services/LANDservice/LANDfeatures/FeatureServer/queryDomains) to forward over to the MapServer version - things worked fine. Fast, data and features were still coming through. But turned out - we had a user somehow load over 90k domain values on a single field in a feature class. Now that's one heck of a pick list! I say all of this to close out this particular thread with the knowledge (at least at my company) that 99.32641% of the time a performance problem has a data problem feeding it. Whether it be sharing shapefiles, bad mapped network drives in a virtual setting, super large publish/copy fGDB to hosted services, or bad rules like 90k domain values, you can fix the data, fix the problem. We have to be very wholistic in our approach when we get complaints like "ArcGIS Pro has been sluggish all day, and others on my team are saying the same thing". Usually ends up not being Pro at all so if you clear that old cache, and still have major headaches, start looking into your data. Not everyone can go to ESRI for a case, and yes here - we were looking at domains and completely missed 90k on a single FCs field for some 6 months with a work around. Finally our DB crashed with a patch and we found multiple issues once we fixed this data problem. We're humming well right now, so well we are thinking of upgrading to 11.1. May as well start over again! 🙂 The slow queryDomain return was found because of the Diagnostic Monitor Ctrl-Alt-M. Thanks for commenting!

I would also consider this blog for additional information about ENTERPRISE. https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-enterprise/administration/consider-arcgis-enterprise-10-9-1-until-youre-ready-to-turn-it-up-to-11/ There are really important items that you need to stay at 10.9x or below as long as you depend on ArcMap. It is becoming very compelling to go ahead and move on to Pro.

When you get the proper license file, it will have the extension .PRVS. That will run on a license authorization tool. If you open it and look at the text the license number should be ESU as the first 3 characters. I also want to clarify that yes sure, there is still value in ArcMap. However at my company there no longer is. Our processes and security measures are the primary reasons. For students, Pro should be a focus IMO, but they will likely get a job with a mixed environment or perhaps one of those places that refuses to embrace Pro. Unfortunately, there is a schedule where ESRI will no longer support that so the risk is do you want to operate there. Best of luck to all!

Hello. Your instructor should be able to provide this to you. Also, I would not imagine they are providing student copies of ArcMap, given it will deprecate very soon. I would recommend you call the student software number at 1-800-447-9778.

Hello. Did this ever get resolved? If so can someone share the solution? We just began encountering this in the last 1 week or so, not an everyday workflow for us. We get this dreaded super-useful error. 🙂 undefined.

Does anyone remember how slow ArcMap used to get, and one of the primary ways to reset it was to rename the Normal.MXT to _OLD, or just delete it and make ArcMap re-create at next run? Here are some items I have found recently that are very similar to that and seem to improve performance, at least initially right after deletion. Hope this helps. DELETE THESE FOLDERS: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Esri\ the folders Local Caches and Index %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Esri\ArcGISPro the folder rest_locator_cache

Having the ability to set your Portal, and Named User for all users is something that would be great in Pro.settingsConfig. We deploy through Citrix VDI, and you can't set these items through HKLM in the registry, and people forget how to sign in and get their licensing. If we could make it where they just get past selecting Named User, Enterprise and the URL entry we would be helping our users greatly. I was hopeful that sign in through browser would catch on but it really has not helped our organization. Using Pro.settingsConfig would allow us to manage a single file and call on it from all virtual machines. This would allow us to switch users over to a testing environment quicker, or add additional portal URLs to their list. I know some of these items can be set through performing a silent install, but we prefer configuration that you can manage after the install. Not all settings can be specified through the install variables. This was posted at recommendation of requesting through a support case and our ESRI TAM.

It is interesting how you can come across a really old post and still find relevance. To answer Derek's question, the answer is very simple today. Mobile apps, ArcGIS Earth, several have a category for favorites. It would be easier to direct users to this generally accepted functional area than force them to log in to Portal, and favorite the item first. Some of our users never use the web version of Portal.
