Hi Mike, I ended up using the help from an ESRI representative through our service contract because I couldn't fiugure out what the issue was with my data either. They were great and we got the issue figured out within a day. The rep told me that within my data "A column may not start with a number or underscore. Here is a document explaining naming conventions http://resources.arcgis.com/content/kbase?fa=articleShow&d=23087. Note: The column names are no longer an issue at ArcGIS 10. If you have access to a machine which has ArcGIS 10 installed, you would be able to run Extract Values to Points without any issue." I hope that this helps.

I am using the ArcgGIS 9.3 platform. I am still unable to figure this bug out. In the properties for both files, the coordinate systems and datums are both the same and I verified this in Arc toolbox. I looked at the bug patterson had suggested and am trying to work from there. How do I determine if the Input Raster is a geodatabase raster dataset?

Hello, I am trying to use the extraction tool in spatial analyst, specifically extract values to points. I need to extract values from an input raster from a vulnerability map to a point layer of groundwater wells, but when I perfrom the operation I get the following error message: Executing: ExtractValuesToPoints Buda_Wells DRASTIC H:\Senior_Project\DRASTIC_MAP\DRASTIC\Well_DRASTICScores\trial1.shp NONE VALUE_ONLY Start Time: Fri Mar 25 10:57:28 2011 ERROR 999998: Unexpected Error. Failed to execute (ExtractValuesToPoints). End Time: Fri Mar 25 10:57:29 2011 (Elapsed Time: 1.00 seconds) I am unable to determine the cause as this is a general error. Any suggestions?

If I am understanding this correctly, you mean creating groundwater elevation models for smaller units for the layer I am working in and then combining them together as a whole. If that is correct, I have considered that possibility, but am unsure as to how to proceed in that direction. regarding "breaklines", I could separate points on the map that are within watershed sub basins or elevations to attempt this, however I am unsure if this would be reflective of the aquifers. Any suggestions?

Thank you both for your input, it was very helpful. The map I am generating is a groundwater elevation map for Luzerne County in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The geology of the area is very unique, as there are both confined and unconfined aquifers within the county. I will consider both techniques and consult a local hydrogeologist ang geologist about the accuracy of the model.

hello all, I am trying to generate a depth to groundwater map using available data that I have. The data that I'm using is primarily well water data. I am unsure as to which method I should use, Inverse Distance Weighted, splining, or kriging. If I do choose kriging, should I use universal, ordinary, simple, etc.?

Hello, I'm trying to create a slope map using a DEM file. I used the spatial analyst> surface> slope function. I wanted the map to be in percent slope/rise and not degrees. When I do this, the map it creates looks right, but the units are way off and the ranges for values are extremely high, all the way to 440? I tried to make sure that the DEM and the layer I was working both had the same coordinate system, but at this point I am lost and not sure what to do. My other question is that would it matter if I use 3D Analyst or Spatial Analyst, just out of curiosity?

Hello, I am a student working with Arcmap 9.3 and I am working with the geostatistical method selection to create a map of groundwater. I am trying to create map of depth to groundwater for a county. I have the point data I need, but I am unsure as to which type of kriging method I should use (ordinary, simple, universal, indicator, probability, disjunctive). I need the map for a groundwater vulnerability model using the DRASTIC model. What should I do?
