We're thinking of investing in an ArcGIS Online subscription and our network specialist wants to know if we can synchronize our existing network user accounts from our Active Directory to the ArcGIS Online subscription?

Is it possible to synchronize accounts?

Yes, our plan is that ArcGIS Online will support Active Directory. ArcGIS Online will authenticate users against your active directory server. Thus, it will need to be externally accessible.

thanks,

Our current schedule has it for the end of Q1 2013. Not guaranteed though.

Is that target date looking good so far? I have a group of users who don't want to all have an additional account to manage (I know I can create the accounts for them, but they don't want one more password and login to remember).

Alternatively, is there a way to generate a medium or long-term token to access AGO secure services? For our secure ArcGIS Server services, we have been generating tokens that last about a year, and securing the entire Flex map directory using IIS that authenticates via active directory. That way all our staff can see the maps, but no one else can, and we don't have to worry about extra accounts.

Thanks for any ideas / suggestions, let me know if the second questions should be reposted as a separate topic so that you can get credit for answering it.

We are working on it, however, I don't know the specifics about it. I do know that it is a non-trivial task and there are some technical challenges.

There is no way to generate medium or long term tokens. We don't allow this for security reasons.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello -

Is there any additional insight on this topic, or any dates that can be communicated?  I see some topics about Enterprise Identity Provider abilities in Beta, but I'm not sure how that relates to the vision for Active Directory users.

Thanks

Configuring ArcGIS Online to work with your Enterprise login is in beta now and available if you have a subscription. Here's a link to a help topic on it.
