Navigation tools are disabled in editor mode

I am using Flexviewer 3.6 & ArcGIS Server 10.1. I have a map containing the Navigation widget and the Edit widget. If not editing all nav functions work, when I open the the Edit widget, the zoom-in/zoom-out buttons in the nav widget are greyed out and cannot be activated. When I close the Edit widget it all works again. Both widgets are ESRI's out of the box, unmodified. Any ideas (and am I the only one with this problem)?

All the mouse and keyboard navigation is still available, for example:

Press Shift and click and drag to draw a rectangle around an area and zoom in.

To zoom out, press Alt and Shift when drawing the rectangle.

Why is it disabled? If no good reason, can it be enabled (or is it a bug)?
