Our office uses Arc Reader 9.3.1 on several workstations for the staff and public to use.  I have one of the public workstations that will no longer allow Arc Reader to run.  The PC is using Windows XP and has been working great for a while.

Recently Arc Reader failed to run.  I get the following message.
"Unable to start the application due to a bad application configuration.
Delete the Arcreader.ART file and restart the application."

I cannot locate this ART file anywhere.  I have completely unistalled the program and re-installed ArcReader 3 times, with no luck in getting the program to run again.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to repair this problem?

Check the following directory:
documents and settings\%username%\application Data\ESRI\ArcReader\Templates\
should see the arcreader.art file there

folder options should be  - show hidden files and folders

We are seeing this as well. ArcReader has 9.3.1 has worked well but more and more we see this same message. Don't have the ability to install 10 across the board yet, but have noticed it eliminates the problem on a few suspect machines. Any idea why this message is popping up for no apparent reason? We've been either deleting or renaming the .art file but it is only a work around for a few days then the error message appears again.

Did you ever come up with a solution to this problem?  I am trying to install ArcReader 10 with absolutely no luck.  Any help here would be great.
