Hi every body,

I am a novice user of Arc GIS.
I have a map in Auto CAD, ofcourse with polygons, lines, text and many symbols.
I have the complete data related to all the features in the map.

Please help me to convert map in Auto CAD to Arc GIS where I can edit the polygons, add symbols etc.
I have converted all the polygons to shape files and have added in Arc GIS. But I still feel it is not a complete map.
How can I a make new symbols which I use in Auto CAD.

Should I make a geodatabase or store all them in layers.

Please guide me through the steps.

Kind Regards

Hola Arif,

It sounds like you have already converted the individual layers from CAD to shapefiles. At this point as long as you having a shapefile per layer from CAD (points, lines, polygons etc.) you are ready to edit the data to make updates and changes. If you are looking to have symbols for each of these leayers, you can keep your data as shapefiles or convert them over into a geodatabase environment. In either data format, you are able to symbolize your data and then create layer files. This way all you have to do is add in the layer file into a map, which points back to your source data. I hope this helps with what you are looking for, if not and you are current with your maintenance, please log a webform and we will be happy to work with you. Gracias, Arif!
