Are you a faculty member interested in supporting your students' success? Do you incorporate ArcGIS into your curriculum? An Esri technical certification could be a valuable consideration. A certification can enhance a student's résumé, differentiating them from peers, validating their technical skills, and potentially improving their chances of securing interviews.

Based on the 2023 Value of IT Certification Candidate Report, individuals who obtain technical certifications experience both personal and professional benefits, as highlighted below:

  • 92% feel more confident in their abilities.
  • 84% are more determined to succeed professionally.
  • 37% receive salary increases.

Esri's GIS Fundamentals Foundation certification is particularly suited for students completing a college degree or certificate program. This certification is designed for candidates with around 100 hours of GIS coursework or 3-6 months of GIS workplace experience. Whether students are looking to enter the workforce soon or advance their GIS-related careers, this certification can be a suitable choice. The exam evaluates a candidate's proficiency in applying basic ArcGIS concepts and performing fundamental ArcGIS tasks.

Upon achieving Esri certification, individuals gain access to several benefits, including a digital badge for display on their email signature, résumé, or LinkedIn profile, the opportunity to share their certification story on Esri Academy, and inclusion in the directory listing. Additionally, Esri, in partnership with Credly provides certified individuals the ability to explore labor market insights and job postings related to Esri certified skills. This can be a useful tool to help individuals find their next (or first) job opportunity.

Consider sharing this information with your campus career center, so they can provide guidance to your GIS students in building effective résumés.
