I'm working with the ESRI created template Crash Safety Analysis Tools Template for ArcGIS 9.3.1 and am receiving an error when using trying to run the tool. The error I receive is:
Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. Failed to execute (SlidingScaleGPTool).
A link to the ESRI template is below, and it looks like somebody else has received this error in the past and managed to fix it, but I'm unable to locate the resolution. I'm starting with the test data provided by ESRI before I commence with the data I need to run the tool on.
Can you make sure that your input and output are in the same spatial reference? Also, if you are writing to a geodatabase, make sure that your output does not have the .shp extension in the tool output. Does this help?
