I understand the default value for Asset group in the Utilities asset package is Unknown / 0.

I wondered if this is a default value and I apply this to a feature is flags as a dirty area. What is the point of the Unknown value if it effectively can't be used as it will always create dirty area?

Any information is welcome

I believe it's there to be used when migrating data from other GIS schemas that might not yet be properly classified.  The "Unknown" asset group is not intended for long-term usage.  When we finished our migration into the Utility Network, I added attribute constraint rules that blocked it from being used on almost all of our feature classes.
