@ColinLawrence It could be that they would be moving in/out of connectivity. We are out in the woods, but it's not too remote, but it is a possibility. Also, there are areas of somewhat heavy tree canopy, but I'm not sure that would cause connectivity issues, though it might interfere with getting a good GPS signal. We did another burn this past Friday and everything went ok, there were no duplicates even though I know of one time where one of the devices didn't get a cell signal.

@ColinLawrence See attached logs. I named them after the first set of digits of the device ID. Also, an update about anything unique...when setting up the devices in the morning before the burn, we do turn on the tracking and they do sit around a bit (around 1 hour) while we're conducting our pre-burn briefing and getting the rest of our gear setup. Thanks!

@ColinLawrence I'll work on getting the logs, I guess I'll have to get them from both devices? As for anything unique...this device/account was assigned to a "suppression" engine that monitors an area for fire going somewhere where it shouldn't. It would/could be idle for sometime, but probably no more than 10-15 minutes at the most.

@ColinLawrence thanks for the response. Yes for the same devices and all have the same version of Field Maps. However, in addition we did add some new devices (both iphone and android) so not sure about their version of FM. The two duplicates with the same account for created_user & full_name have different device ID and the triplicate with the different full_name from the created_user as the same device ID as one of the above....all very confusing 🙂 Attached is a screenshot of the table (excel export) and I changed the account names. The other person is within our organization and was on the rx burn that day being tracked using a different device and that worked fine. Like I mentioned I can maybe see where we messed up with one of the duplicates since we were adding new devices, but I can't figure out how there's one with a different full_name since to the best of my knowledge that field isn't editable.

@Anonymous User It's been a while and everything has been working well in the sense of no duplicates...until a few days ago. We had 10 devices/accounts out at the same time, no account was logged into the more than one device, however, the duplicate was specific to only one account. Actually, it was a triplicate. When looking at the attribute table for LKL, for some reason for the triplicate account, one of the triplicates has a different name in the "Full Name" field (as opposed to the account name in the Created User field). For the other two records, the name in the Full Name field aligns with the account name in the Created User field. Do you know why the triplicates may be happening and how did the Full Name field end up with a different account name in there? That's the one that really stumps me. If this isn't making sense I can send you a csv of the attribute table, or share the feature layer with you. Thanks!

@TianWen sorry I haven't replied yet. I want to create a copy of the data b/c I don't want the original to be used for testing...and I haven't had the chance to get around to it...but it'll be soon 🙂

@TianWen thanks! I'll come up with a sample app. I would let you try the specific one I'm dealing with but it's info that I don't want public. Is there a group that I could share this to so that you can see the issue?

@TianWen thanks for the quick reply. I know that you can change the map interval in either the web map itself or EB, and that helps a bit, but like I mentioned in the original post, it seems like once you click the "update" button the map should update (especially b/c in my situation it's a hosted feature layer). We did find a work-around, once the attribute table is updated if you zoom in or out, the symbology will change.

I have a layer with the symbology based off a certain field in the attribute table. In EB when doing an update to that field, it should change the symbology (in this case a red point to a green point), but it ends up taking a few minutes for that to happen. Is there the app can be configured to update the symbology/map immediately after the edit? To make the edit go through one has to click the "update" button so you would think that should be the trigger. Thanks! Matt

@ColinLawrence thanks for the response and suggestions. We were out in the middle of the woods (but still had decent cell phone signal) so it's doubtful that it's a WIFI signal...unless someone had their phone hotspot on. And battery optimization was already off, so who knows. -Matt

Like the subject line...how does Field Maps use GPS on an iOS device? I'm asking b/c at a recent event we have three Trimble units and one iPad running tracker on Field Maps and the iPad had several tracks and Last Known Locations that were several miles from its actual location. All of these errant tracks were when Activity (as listed in the table) was either stationary or unknown. The Trimbles were spot on. Does an iPad (or iPhone) use GPS but if it can't get a satellite signal for whatever reason resort to cell tower triangulation? Besides pairing the iPad to a high-accuracy GPS receiver is there a way to restrict the iPad to just GPS? This iPad is WiFi-Cellular so it has a GPS radio. Thanks!

@Anonymous User If we remove that account from the Track View configuration and then re-add them, will that delete the previous LKL?

@Anonymous User Thanks Aaron. We're definitely not doing MDM but I'll look into it. Using AGOL Assistant I was able to edit the refresh interval in the JSON for those layers (I went with 0.2 minutes = 12 seconds).

I was wondering if anybody here has any experience and suggestions for getting as close to real-time location tracking when viewing the map on Field Maps? We're tracking several resources using FM on Trimbles (Android OS) during a prescribed burn. The person tracking their location is using a map on FM on an iPad. We've updated the Last Known Location layer to refresh every 30 seconds and turned off battery optimization on the Trimble units. Doing those two things seems to get us an up-to-date location every 60-90 seconds. If that's the best we can hope for then so-be-it but maybe there's something else that we could be doing to improve it even more. Thanks in advance!

Great & thanks! We'll update the app and see if that works. @Anonymous User a few questions about the deleting... If we do nothing except for updating Field Maps will that outlier Last Known Location eventually disappear or do we need to delete as noted in the link you provided? If we need to delete to remove that stray location, is that just deleting the history and the next time that user turns on tracking everything is hunky-dory or do we need to add that user back using the Tracker Viewer settings? -Matt
