Found the issue. We did some firewall work that updated all our IP addresses and the machine was still using the old IP address. I just updated to the new IP and it works now.

I installed and setup Portal a few weeks ago. Everything went fine. I added a service and some Maps. Now, 2 weeks later I logged back in to Portal and nothing is there. No maps. No service. And I get logged off for no reason. If I try to add a new item, it fails. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks.

Jacob is correct; your Portal for ArcGIS license will be a different code than your ArcGIS for Server license. Portal was not meant to be authorized using the same Authorization wizard as ArcGIS for Server. While it is technically an extension, I have found it to behave and be treated differently than other extensions for ArcGIS for Server. It looks and feels like a separate application altogether, and it is authorized accordingly. Cool. But which license is needed? I don't see one called "Portal for ArcGIS" anywhere.... Thanks.

Contacted esri support. There is a bug, NIM088894, which states that the token generator from http://<server>.<domain>.com/webadaptor/tokens does not work unless the Web Adapter name is 'arcgis'. I tried to genericize my URLs but in actuality my Web Adapter was not named "arcgis". Unistalling and reinstalling the Web Adapter using the name "arcgis" (lower case) fixed the problem. The original token service now works.

I have a 10.2 ArcGIS Server with SSL enabled. Both these token services work: The old URL: https://server.domain.com/arcgis/tokens/ and the new URL (10.1+?): https://server.domain.com/arcgis/admin/generatetoken I have a 10.1 ArcGIS Server with SSL not enabled. Only one of these token services work: The old URL: http://server.domain.com/arcgis/tokens/ DOES NOT WORK and the new URL: http://server.domain.com/arcgis/admin/generatetoken does work. Both ArcGIS Servers are configured to use a Web Adaptor ("arcgis"). The error for the failing in the token service UI is "Invalid request Usage: http://server.domain.com/arcgis/tokens?request=gettoken&username=username&password=password& Usage: http://server.domain.com/arcgis/tokens/generateToken?username=username&password=password& Usage: http://server.domain.com/arcgis/tokens/gettoken.html" and for the URL with passed parameters (http://server.domain.com/arcgis/tokens?request=gettoken&username=XXXXX&password=XXXXX&) is "Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: offset" The user/pw is valid, as it works from the new URL and to access the secured folder in the REST directory. Questions: 1. Why are there 2 URLs for accessing the token service? 2. Why doesn't the "old" token service URL work for the 10.1 server? Many thanks.

After talking to Support, we managed to fix this by adding 2 lines to the Hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc (uncommented) 127.0.0.1 localhost <type IP of host> <type host name> The replacing of the WebAdaptor.config file worked after a reboot but would then have to be replaced after the next reboot. And the file itself never changed. Changing the Hosts file allowed the machine to "find itself" after a reboot and solved the problem.

Does anyone know of a solution that doesn't involve saving the original WebAdaptor.config and copying it over every time my IT Admin reboots the server for updates? Surely there must be a more practical solution. Thanks.

It seems that it's talking about multiple machines but still in one site. Or am I reading it wrong? My desire would be to have a commercial site (with any number of machines) and a developer site using 1 Web adaptor but I'm beginning to think this is not possible or desirable. I don't know how it would work with licensing either....

Hi - Is it possible to use 1 Web Adaptor for different sites? For example, I'm considering having my production site and development site both use the same Web Adaptor. Thanks.

I have been interested in the same question and my understanding is as follows: If you have AGOL you get Operations Dashboard for free. No AGOL, no OD. That said, within AGOL you can configure AGOL to point to your internal ArcGIS Server. AGOL has the concept of a "webmap" (terrible name) which is conceptually like a web version of an MXD. Within OD you pull the "webmap" or web MXD from AGOL and this has pointers (and connection info) to your internal ArcGIS Servers (and to any maps you want from AGOL or elsewhere). Thus you can use Operations Dashboard against your own AGS's, but not without an AGOL license for each user.

Thanks all. I guess I got confused from reading in the help "With the Web Adaptor: http://<web server name>/arcgis/rest/services or http://<web server name>/<web adaptor name>/rest/services" http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/install-guides/arcgis-server/10.1/index.html#/About_the_ArcGIS_Web_Adaptor/01nm00000016000000/ As pointed out, it makes sense that it is one or the other, not both. Jonathan, perhaps the doc group can add some more words to the topic explaining why one url would be expected versus the other.....
