Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm curious about this as well!

Have you found a way to resolve this? I'm having a similar issue with a shapefile after using arcpy.ImportMetadata_conversion. The lock persists until I close Pythonwin and using del arcpy doesn't help.

Hi there, I'm working with some Silverlight apps and am having trouble with the popups for a couple of layers. I've configured them so the popups are enabled, but when I click on them I only see the header value - the window below is completely empty. The layers are both from the the same feature service, which was shared from ArcMap 10.1. This is the URL for the ArcGIS online page for the service: http://ncdot.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=bf310553857c4a868b0f6b8e7d54c942. The service definition is shared publicly as well, if that makes a difference. The popups work in ArcGIS online maps, but not in the Silverlight application builder (version 3.1.0.110). If anyone has any thoughts on why this might be happening please let me know! EDIT: There may be an issue with the field name aliases, as publishing the services without aliases gets the popups working again. Is Silverlight picky about aliases, especially with feature services? I've been told that this isn't an issue with map services that we're using. Thanks. Sarah

The behavior is normal. You have dissolved to create a branching multi-part polyline, which will randomly append the order of the internal parts. Part 1 does not have to chain to part 2, etc. When you split the break in the internal part order becomes apparent. You would have to control the part assembly, which is a pain to do unless you wrote a python script. Anyway, I would do the splits on the original lines or a copy of them and change the dissolve field values at the original lines. Then use the Buffer tool with a very small buffer and the List option and uncheck the create multi-part option. Then use Spatial join with the One To Many option to get the polygon Join ID as a new group ID for every set of lines. Select where the original line attributes equaled the lines and do a new dissolve on the new group ID and the old group ID with the create multi-part feature option checked. These will create contiguous new branching groups. Thanks for your reply. I would be amenable to trying to your solution, but unfortunately I'm a little lost. I didn't do a dissolve, and am not sure how to "change the dissolve fields at the original lines." So, missing the first step, I can't continue with the rest. I don't have the original lines, as they were created and merged as I worked. The were not created based on any polygons, and there's no other spatial file that they're related to. I did, however, use the "Explode Multipart Feature" to separate the resultant lines after my split, and then merged the appropriate parts again. I would say the issue is solved. (Also, I still don't understand why this is the normal behavior for a split, why splitting in one location would cause a seemingly random split in another location, and the line fragments would be considered one line.)

Hi there, I've got a line feature that was created by merging multiple sections of line. I'm trying to split it back up in different places, and when I do, I get multiple splits and lines that are considered one line but are not connected. The image here shows the location I placed the point in a yellow circle. The highlighted line shows one of the resultant lines, while the pink is the other. Is there something I'm missing? I've tried repairing the geometry just in case. I've also made sure nothing else is selected, turned off other layers, anything else I can think of. Thanks for any assistance! Sarah

To add to the above, only the Feature Service Owner or a user with Admin rights on the ArcGIS Online for Organizations site can export the data. Hi Max! Do you know if this is still the case? Is there documentation of this somewhere? I haven't seen anything in the help files about this. Thanks, Sarah

Hi there, I edit my data locally on a regular basis and would prefer to replace the hosted file with a locally maintained one rather than doing my edits on a local copy of the service - is there a workaround? Some way to replace a copy saved for editing with a different file perhaps? Also, I have edits disabled and that appears to mean that not even I can edit it by making a local copy (I've logged in and followed the instructions but the options are greyed out). What's the recommended way for me to deal with this while maintaining control over the data? Thanks, Sarah

Hi there, I'm trying to build a general 'AND' query for my map that will allow users to locate a polygon in the map using a number of parameters. The inability to leave the default value blank seems to be a huge drawback, because in order to allow the users to enter only the parameters they wish to they will need to delete whatever default value I've had to enter. I tried having a note in query title to delete all unused fields, but it does not fit in the display. The same thing happens when putting a note AS the default value. Is there some character that can be used in the place of a value that will effectively be a blank? We'd like people to be able to query the attributes of our file using the information they're looking for like site name, county, division, HUC, mitigation type, or any combination of attributes. Building a separate query for each would be inefficient for our purposes, since it wouldn't allow them to narrow down the results based on other attributes. We're using ArcGIS Online for Organizations if that's helpful information, but the map isn't shared so I can't include a link. Thanks for any assistance or information! Sarah Schwarzer
