Thread revival! What about Windows? Where is the default folder for storing tpk's on these? I can save them pretty much anywhere, and load them just fine. But it is doubling the hard drive space being used once uploaded into Collector, and with modern day tablets, there just isn't the space. We do not have the option of having live data in the field either.

Is it possible to add another type to the parcel fabric, other than what comes out of the box? We are looking to add "Preliminary Parcels" to our list. We can add the domains we want, as well as the feature to the fabric, but the new type does not show when we bring it in to edit. Does the LGIM model dictate what is brought into an edit session?

Hello, I have found this on ESRI's site, but am curious where this dll needs to be dropped so that in MPC we can see the fields to set up a relationship. http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2012/06/22/mapping-underground-assets-using-arcgis-for-windows-mobile/ We have everything set up, but it doesnt show us the menus as the how-to's show. Can anyone shed some light on this? Maybe it is the order of operations that we are doing incorrectly? Thanks

No you do not need SDE. Positions will create a mobile cache of your data, utilizing Project Manager. You then synchronize your cache back into the database. Positions requires a file geodatabase. As long as you are up to date on your maintenance with Correct and Analyst, you can convert for free, just contact your Trimble dealer/reseller.

I wanted to start this thread as a place for questions. I have been working with Trimble quite a bit to get this figured out. Mostly on being able to switch from Analyst to Positions. It seems like Trimble hasn't caught up to ESRI and the service pack yet, so they have workarounds for compatibility. Lets hear some of your stories with the new software.

I have a question regarding this issue. I am assuming you can have as many Mobile deployments as you want, correct? I.E. your 5 Juno units, it installs just fine on all. Than, my next question is, you can create as many mobile caches as you want, right?

So when you say "if it reaches your maximum gdb size, is there a max that arcpad/trimble data collector can handle? Ive noticed that if you check out too much data, it really slows arcpad, or it tells you it cannot connect to the GNSS receiver.

I dont think you are supposed to, but some users that have been with the same database for a while now, accumulate a lot of sessions. Is it ok to delete these?

I am wondering how true Trimble is with stating the 6000 is only compatible with Analyst 2.4. 2.4 is very unstable (licensing) and all it does it add the functionality for gnss, which hardly any stations post process gnss yet. ive tried with 2.3 and it works just fine to post process, then i use the floodlight (gnss) to navigate back to features.

Careful with using the rangefinder....last i knew, those points could not be post processed, this was last march (2010) when i was told this, which makes sense that the laser data doesnt contain the L1/L2 data for the ssf/axf.

Jerry, The accuracy of the vertical with any gps unit isnt going to be entirely accurate. You have to look at the horizontal, and can pretty much believe that the vertical is going to be twice as bad. Its based off a single geoid that is preloaded onto the unit. so if you go out and take a point, and read its elevation, then build a large structure, stand atop it, and take a point, the elevation will not change. Plus too, Trimble is pushing and pushing their new floodlight stuff, when most base stations around the US cannot even post process it. Dave

Technically there is no compass at all on the gps unit or in arcpad. Correct, it is based off GPS signals when movement is detected. Standing still, the accuracy of the gps unit is directly linked to what is posted on Trimbles site. if it says the unit receives 2-5 meters raw, then satellites will say you are at x, then y, then z, all within a 15 foot circle. thats why the compass in arcpad spins...making navigating back to a point difficult in some aspects.

I have been looking around here for a while, and can't find anything so here we go. When you use the Arcpad toolbar to check out data, and you choose your layers, hit next, it asks you where you want the pictures to save when the check in is performed. I tried personal and file gdb's, snapped a few polaroids, and checked them in. They went to the right place, and worked fine when hyper linked. Now, it seems Trimble left this out, unless I am told otherwise. Since GPSA is a piggy-back of Data Manager, you would think it works. Well it does not. Also, since GPSA requires peronal gdb's, i only tested those. The pictures are stored in the folder that was checked out to the unit, but do not migrate to your designated folder. Has anyone seen this? or found what i am doing wrong?
