Hi Pat, We've got this logged internally as NIM078019. I was able to track down a script that was posted some time ago that might help but I have not tested it myself so I can't say for sure if it works or not. Just due to the age I would not be suprised if some modifications would need to be made to get it working with v.10 - ArcPad AutoRotation Scale Fix

Hi Richard, This looks like a great applet; thank you for sharing it. If you haven't already, can you upload it to ArcGIS.com? Step-by-step instructions on how to do this can be found here. Thanks!

Hi Laura, On the GeoExplorer an external antenna, such as the Tempest, needs to be configured to use either COM1 (using the serial clip) or a bluetooth port you set up yourself. The internal antenna will use either COM2 or COM3. Page 109 of the GeoExplorer 3000 Series User Guide goes over how to attach the antenna and the clip to the unit. In ArcPad you would then choose COM1 in the GPS Preferences dialog to use the Tepmpest antenna. If you want to go back and use the internal antenna afterwards you would switch to either COM2 or COM3 in the same preferences window. Hope this clears some of the confusion!

Shawn/Brett, As an FYI, the ArcPad team is currently looking into this as several people, such as yourselves, have voiced their need for integrating a geoid model into the software rather than using a single separation value. We've got an enhancement request logged for this (CQ00300055) so it would be beneficial if you could contact support and get yourselves added. The more people we can get added, the more weight it will carry with the team. There is also an entry on the Ideas website that you and your colleagues can promote. Thanks guys!

Hi Anas, In ArcPad Studio there is not a way to automatically limit a page of a form to a certain amount of fields but you can open the edit form from the apl and re-arrange the way the fields are placed on any of the pages and, if needed, add new pages at the end to accommodate any overflow you may have. Once you have everything placed the way it should look on the device, you can now apply this modified form for future checkouts by checking the Layer Definition Template check box in the ArcPad Data Manager. That way you do not have to modify the form each time you check data out to the field. Thanks,

Hi Tom, Because domains are only supported in geodatabase tables and feature classes, they will not be maintained once you export the feature classes to shapefile format. The resulting attribute table for the shapefile will, unfortunately, only have the original domain codes and not the associated descriptions. If you are looking to constrain the values of your shapefile attribute fields similar to the way a domain does for a feature class, one option worth looking at is working with a lookup table as part of your edit form. This would be saved in an APL file which could then be applied to your shapefiles. If you are unfamiliar on how to do this, Exercise 2 of the Customizing ArcPad Tutorial (Programs > ArcGIS > ArcPad 10 > Developer Help > Customizing ArcPad) goes through how to associate a standalone .dbf with an EditForm. They won't be true domains, but will have a similar look and feel. Thanks!

Hi Vojkan, If the AXF file is opening properly on the desktop and not on the mobile device it could be that SqlCE was either not installed on the device properly or not installed at all. Because an AXF is a small relational database built on SqlCE, this installation on the mobile device is required in order for ArcPad to read the file properly. Try re-installing SqlCE to the mobile device through the Deployment Manager and see if it helps. Thanks!

Hi Matt, The check-in process via the Data Manager toolbar will only update your geodatabase with the features that were added, edited, or deleted rather than wholesale overwrite your entire feature class. Please note though that there is no conflict resolution mechanism in place during the check-in process, so if you happened to edit the same feature in both the desktop and on the mobile device, the last edit in wins. Thanks!

Hi Jenny, The ArcPad App shortcuts live in the Start Menu\Programs list on your computer. On Windows 7 the path is: C:\Users\<your profile>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ArcPad Apps On XP: C:\ Documents and Settings\<your profile>\Start Menu\Programs\ArcPad Apps On a mobile device: My Device\Windows\Start Menu\ArcPad Apps From there you can delete individual shortcuts or the entire program group. Thanks!

Hi Tim, ArcPad will communicate with a GPS device via a USB cable or Bluetooth connection. Using port emulator software is more of a requirement for the GPS toolbar in ArcMap, which only supports communication to a GPS antenna via a serial connection. Just make sure that the device is set to output to NMEA protocol rather than a Garmin proprietary protocol and that you set the correct COM port and baud rate in the GPS settings in ArcPad. More information regarding connecting your device to ArcPad can be found here. Thanks,

Hi jsarrow, If ArcPad is installed prior to installing ArcGIS or, as in this case, ArcGIS is upgraded to a new version and ArcPad is not, it's common to see this happen. I most cases, the underlying issue is most likely due to the ArcPadToolsGen2.dll file not registering properly. Take a look at this KB article and see if the steps help. Once the .dll is registered, the Data Manager should be visible. Thanks

apalaniuk, You can toggle whether the edit form will pop up automatically or not via the Display Edit Form box, which can be accessed through the table of contents (See the screen-shot I have attached). By default the box is checked for each layer in your map. By un-checking the box you can control which of your layers will have the edit form display after adding a new feature. Thanks!

Hi Hope, Both ArcGIS Mobile and ArcPad can be used for disconnected editing at all three license levels and without ArcGIS Server. Check to see which build of ArcGIS Mobile you have as there were two major bugs associated with build 2145 that prevented ArcView users from taking full advantage of ArcGIS Mobile. One of the bugs (NIM059571) does not allow users with an ArcView license to add Global Id's to their data; a necessity for editing in ArcGIS Mobile. The second bug (NIM059570) does not allow ArcView users to use the tools in the ArcGIS Mobile toolbox, which sounds like what you are running into. The good news is that both of these issues have been addressed with the release of build 2475 which can be downloaded via the Customer Care Portal and clicking on the Software Download link. I hope this helps!

Hi John, Unfortunately the answer is no. ArcPad will only run on Windows Mobile based devices and not on iOS, Android or Windows Phone 7 based devices. You can refer to the system requirements page for more details. Esri does have mobile solutions for these other platforms available. You can get information on those applications here to see if any of them will meet your needs. Thanks!
